Fall update, The Warrior and War Horse Project

By Colleen Cheechalk | Executive Director

Greetings from The Center For Equine Assisted Wellness!

We are so happy to bring you this update from the field, about our latest project, The Warrior and War Horse program for Veterans and their families.

While we didn't reach our financial goal for this micro-project before it was retired, it was still a success! As with any new community project, we can only use the information we gather regarding statistics, need and so on, to create budgets and plan for services. What we find in our organization, is that budget shortfalls never equal failure, they create the opportunity for us to think outside the box, and find ways to fill the need, with what we have. I feel really confidant in saying, we did that and more!

We had planned to serve 8, and I had pledged to personally match services by donating my time further to serve 8 more. However, with our grassroots, "back to the basics" approach, we served 18. Group sessions were preferred, and that allowed us to serve more, with less money, a true win-win for all involved. In fact, we all preferred it to private sessions, and we have decided that going forward we will make our focus peer to peer supportive sessions, with private sessions reserved for those with a more intensive need that requires facilitation with a licensed therapist.

As our season winds down, we felt the need to reach out once more and try to touch additional lives. So, on Veterans Day 2015, we wil be opening our farm to as many as 30 Veterans, and offering them a free group tour of the farm, an introduction to our services and a 45 minute group session with the horses, all at no cost. And we can do this, because of you!

We are so excited about the success of this program, and so grateful to our generous donors for their continued support of this vital service. We hope you will follow the progress of this project as it continues to grow. You can find us on Facebook and also on our website at www.centerforeaw.org

Thank you again for your support, and we hope to share more with you soon!
