Thank you for your support of DLF's work with at-risk girls.

“I got pregnant at 13.  I have a lot of problems, but when Transcendental Meditation came into my life it gave me this open door to something that I never knew could be there.”

 -           Student, New Village Charter School

Thank you for your support of the David Lynch Foundation’s at-risk youth outreach.

Since the beginning of 2013, the David Lynch Foundation has taught 23 young women at New Village Charter School Transcendental Meditation – a cost-effective, non-religious technique for reducing stress and enhancing intelligence and creativity.

All of us at the David Lynch Foundation are thrilled that we had the necessary resources to teach these at-risk girls, many of whom are homeless or coming from the foster care or juvenile justice system, this invaluable tool.  A new study, published in the June 2013 issue of the journal Education (Vol. 133, No. 4), found that meditating students were less likely to dropout of school or enter prison and more likely to be accepted to post-secondary institutions.

Since our partnership with New Village Charter School began in 2010, we have taught the Transcendental Meditation technique to more than 250 students.

Of the young women that learned to meditate through the support of the David Lynch Foundation and generous individuals like you…

  • 84% self-identify as Hispanic or Latino,
  • 11% self-identify as Black or African American,
  • 2% self-identify as White or Caucasian,
  • 1% self-identify as multi-ethnic or other,
  • 1% self-identify as Asian, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander,
  • 34% have limited English language proficiency,
  • 50% are pregnant or parenting,
  • 98% of students and their families live at or below the poverty line, and
  • 100% have been abused or neglected.

Looking forward, we anticipate teaching an additional 60 girls at New Village Charter School during the 2013-14 school year.

Again, THANK YOU.

These young women were able learn Transcendental Meditation, a proven stress-reducing modality, because of the generosity of people like you.
