You raised $6,415 for at-risk LA youth!

“The Quiet Time Program is the most powerful, effective program I’ve come across in my 40 years as a public school educator. It is nourishing these children and providing them an immensely valuable tool for life. It is saving lives.”

—James S. Dierke, Executive Vice President, American Federation of School Administrators

Thank you for your support of the David Lynch Foundation’s at-risk youth outreach!

Your donations helped us raise $6,415 for our program to teach meditation to 50 students in LA. We are so grateful, as are they.

The David Lynch Foundation has taught an estimated 400 at-risk youth from across the country and abroad Transcendental Meditation – a cost-effective, non-religious technique for reducing stress and enhancing intelligence and creativity.

DLF has implemented the Quiet Time Program, which provides Transcendental Meditation to the LA student body. The David Lynch Foundation partnered with Frederick Douglass Academy, a charter school located in South LA. The Academy aims to bring academic success to this underserved, predominately African-American district through rigorous college-prep curriculum and mandated parent involvement. DLF will help prepare students for academic and social success on the road toward higher education by providing meditation instruction, which fosters greater emotional intelligence and cognitive development.

TM is a practical tool that empowers students to release stress while, enlivening creativity and learning readiness. TM also helps alleviate symptoms of stress and anxiety that can often trigger numerous health, emotional and cognitive issues. Together we endeavor to build student's self-esteem by fostering personal responsibility, accountablilty, and leadership.

Research indicates that Transcendental Meditation (TM) is of significant value for students. Key findings include a 10% improvement in academic achievement; 40% reduction in symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression; and, 86% decrease in suspension rates over two years. Meditating students also score higher on intelligence tests and standardized academic tests and exhibit higher graduation rates as compared to non-meditating students.

ON THE HORIZON…

We hope you will consider continuing your support of our work with youth across the country.  We are pleased to announce that the Quiet Time program are implemented in the following schools for the remainder of the 2013-14 academic year, and you can also give to our Quiet Time program as a whole:
