Unfortunately, NFTE Philadelphia’s project to purchase a set of 10 Surface tablets for our classrooms did not meet its funding goal. Thanks so much to those who did donate, we appreciate all the efforts you have made to bring our students the best resources available. Your donations will further fuel NFTE Philadelphia’s mission to bring an entrepreneurial mindset to students in our city, which continues unabated. This summer we ran several BizCamps, intensive two week business courses that teach students about entrepreneurship: from how to start and grow a business, to the marketing and financial skills necessary to do so. One of these camps, the Launch It Youth BizCamp, had a tech component in keeping with our drive to bridge the technology divide in some of the high-need areas of Philadelphia.

The key components of the Launch It Camp were the lessons on website and mobile app creation. In today’s economy those skills are so vital in creating a new venture. Your donations to NFTE Philadelphia’s tech work helped power these lessons, and we couldn’t thank you enough. The two-week course also included lessons on accounting, intellectual property, patents and copyrights, and case studies on the Philadelphia School District and several local companies.  Students also created their own business plan during the process, working through the entrepreneurial process themselves. The Launch It Camp closed at the University City Science Center, where the students got to present the final versions of their business plans before hearing from guest speakers from EY, Union Packaging, and more.

Thanks again for donating to our young entrepreneurs!
