Summary

NFTE's vision is that every young person will find a pathway to success. To continue our work towards this goal, we will be holding a second annual Start It Up St. Louis Summer BizCamp to engage local students with entrepreneurship education.

Challenge

Entrepreneurship education is the fundamental tool for creating an ongoing cycle of learning and innovation that will bring sustainable job creation and re-creation. Young people face historic increases in joblessness, an unemployment rate that is three times higher than that of adults, and a rapidly shifting economy.

Solution

NFTE is hosting a Start Up Summer BizCamp for local St. Louis students during the summer of 2014. The camp will consist of a full-day, two-week intensive program that is designed to teach entrepreneurship and business concepts to low-income high school students. Our project will purchase materials for the Camp, including experiential activities designed to instill in students an entrepreneurial mindset. These include activities to learn marketing, buying and selling, and setting prices.

Long-Term Impact

By working to keep at-risk students engaged in their school work, NFTE spurs its participants to graduate high school and dare to dream of a brighter future. Whether they pursue higher education, enter the workforce, or start their own business, students seize control of their own future through the course. NFTE's goal is to serve more than 1,000 youth over the next three years by introducing classroom-based, in-school programs taught by NFTE-certified teachers.
