$350 To Send Wilkenson To School For A Year

A microproject by International Disaster Volunteers (IDV)
$350 To Send Wilkenson To School For A Year

Summary

Wilkenson is 14. His mother died before the earthquake, and his father died of cholera in 2010. With no other living relatives, Wilkenson was left living on the streets. A friend of his family found him and brought him to an orphanage. When he arrived, Wilkenson had never been to school before. With your help, we'll give Wilkenson the education he needs to build a brighter tomorrow. He loves to go to school because he says, "I learn things I never knew before". Wilkenson wants to be a doctor.

Challenge

School in Haiti is not free, and if a family cannot pay, their children simply do not attend. Lack of education locks these children, and their own future families, into a cycle of poverty. Ensuring access to school not only improves children's lives, but strengthens Haitian communities in the long-term.

Solution

Wilkenson has lived his whole life in poverty and, without an education, he'll be unlikely to escape the poverty he was born into. Your donations will make the difference between Wilkenson staying in school and finding a road out of poverty or staying trapped in a life of insecurity. We'll use your donation to pay Wilkenson's school fees, provide books, school supplies, and extra support if he needs it. The education he'll receive will be life changing.

Long-Term Impact

Access to education for children from families who do not have the means to send their children to school means that those children will have the skills they need to find stable jobs and escape the poverty of their parents.
