Thank you so much for contributing to this project. This project funded in record time and I just can't tell you how much I appreciate your kindness. Here is a little more about Caleb.
Caleb is 6 years old and full of life. On February 13, 2013 he had his first tonic clonic (grand mal) seizure while sleeping. Over the past year, he has also developed several other types of seizures as well - more than any little boy should have to endure.
Caleb's seizure-response dog (SRD) is still in training and we are hoping they will be working together as a finished team in the next 9-12 months. It takes a while to get the training down just so. He is currently in occupational therapy twice a week to help with sensory processing and fine motor skills. He is also in speech therapy to help with speech/language delay and sees an art therapist to help with my motor skills and frustrations from not always remembering.
When fully trained, Caleb's SRD will push a dog assistance phone to tell his parents he is having a seizure at night. He will help protect him from falls and bring emergency medications to an adult attending to Caleb during a seizure. His SRD will be his constant companion and will bring his family much relief knowing another set of eyes is carefully watching him at all times.
In the meantime, The Chelsea Hutchison Foundation has provided Caleb and his family an Emfit movement monitor which will notify his parents of any night-time seizures.
