Summary

Ismaila Adamu wants to change her society by creating a tailoring shop owned and operated by women. In her own words "Marriage in Bauchi is about dependence and not love. The only way for women to truly be independent is to work and have the freedom to find themselves. Too many people are married out of fear of not eating, not having shelter of being shunned by our families for not having a husband. I am going to change that for women who were born with a desire to work and find love!"

Challenge

Women in Bauchi have few options for schooling and often cannot receive the proper training to be part of the Bauchi workforce. Because of this women often have to marry so they can survive. Leadership Initiatives seeks to solve this problem by offering Ismaila Adamu and promising women leaders with entrepreneurial, leadership and project management training. These young women will then open up the Sama'ila Tela Tailoring Shop and for the first time in their lives be financial independent.

Solution

Once created the Sama'ila Tela Tailoring Shop will offer provide employment for at least five women. Each employee of the shop will receive specialized training and have an area of focus promoting employees to work together instead of competing in the same shop. The business will attract new customers from the Bauchi Community by offering new tailoring techniques from Abuja and Lagos that are not practiced in Northern Nigeria. The Shop will become an icon of what woman can achieve in Bauchi

Long-Term Impact

Develop independent profit-generating businesses that serve as models for growth in surrounding communities. Project beneficiaries fill voids in the local economy while improving their families' health, education and financial stability. Previous leaders have sent their brothers, sisters and children to school, helped invest in new businesses within the community, offered new services to community members such as the disabled, establishing infrastructure for the future growth of Nigeria.
