To supplement our "Educate 150 Children Born of Rape Victims in DR Congo" project (#8568), we are asking for 1 pen & pencil box for each of our 150 students at 3 primary schools. The school will provide paper. Over the last year since the project began, the kids have transitioned from perpetually ashamed & stigmatized to proud in their new status as students. Please provide them with another source of pride with these simple but essential gifts so that their education can be more effective.
Students can write on slates in class but have no way of capturing long-term ideas or assignments without pens, somewhere safe to store them, and paper (the schools provide paper). They and their families live in poverty and cannot afford to buy them.
This project will provide pens and safe storage to students can express themselves on paper without space limitation.
We will educate 150 primary school boys and girls for 1 ten-month academic year, allowing them a start in breaking the cycle of poverty. This is a critical step in allowing the children's mothers to pursue the income-generating activities they need for family survival and especially for their social reintegration when they are rejected and disowned by their families and communities.
