Challenge

The Sundarbans is one of the world's largest mangrove forests and also one of its most biologically productive natural ecosystems. However, due to global warming, logging, shrimp farming, encroaching cities, and other harmful activities, the Sundarbans are in severe danger. Erosion, deforestation, and loss of indigenous species are all becoming serious threats to the region. Restoration efforts are still possible, but funds and labor needed to restore this vital ecosystem are in short supply.

Solution

The 1000 saplings planted by this project will help restore indigenous species, pull CO2 from the atmosphere, and provide habitat for indigenous wildlife. Additionally, this program will enable dozens of Sundarbans students to preserve their local environment, and will unite the community in working towards a sustainable future. The Green Rhinos in the Sundarbans have identified the project to plant 1000 saplings. Each sapling costs only $0.75 USD, so every donation counts!

Long-Term Impact

The saplings planted by the Green Rhinos will ensure a more stable natural environment in the Sundarbans by restoring deforested areas to their natural state. The project itself will inspire a new generation of leaders in India's environmental struggle who will impact countless others, spreading awareness and inspiring action in the Sundarbans and beyond.
