Lynda teaches English to beginners at the English in Mind Institute in Port au Prince Haiti. Her dedication to her students is absolute, and her support goes far beyond just teaching a language. She talked about supporting her students, saying "People think learning a language is easy but when they arrive it is not true. That is the reason that sometimes they're discouraged. I really have two works to do - psychology work and academic work!"
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Jobs in Port au Prince are difficult to come by, yet there is actually a shortage of skilled labour in sections of the city. English is a sought after skill that opens doors to jobs, but most schools which teach English are too expensive for most Haitians. EIM teaches English for free, helping adults find work. However, as the school does not charge students, it relies on donors like you for funding so that EIM can keep paying Lynda's salary and keep 150 students learning.
How will this project solve this problem?
By helping pay Lynda's salary, you'll allow her to keep teaching her students. Those students will take their new language skills and use them to find work, becoming more resilient and self-sufficient. Lynda also teaches new English teachers, helping them become teachers who will, in turn, help more students find work.
Potential Long Term Impact
By paying Lynda's salary, you'll allow her to teach English to hundreds of students. Those students will use their language skills to find work and a road out of poverty. The impact of Lynda's work will be felt by hundreds of families for years to come, and your donation will make those positive changes possible.
