Moving back and forth between Georgia and California was a difficult experience for Domineisha. She dropped out of high school after only completing her junior year. She received a medical assistant certificate but was unable to secure employment without a diploma. With the help of the Los Angeles Conservation Corps, Domineisha was able to enroll in High School and graduate with straight A's. This microproject will provide support for Domineisha while she completes a life changing internship.
While at the LA Corps, Domineisha gained work experience, customer service skills. She was hired to be a Cashier at Home Depot where she earns minimum wage with part-time hours. She will attend LA City College and transfer to a four year university to study Nursing. This project will jump start Domineisha Edward's nursing career by providing her with economic support during a professional internship.
This project will allow Domineisha economic stability to serve in an internship. Domineisha was accepted to a yearlong internship at Children's Hospital LA after completing the LA Corps program. The internship offered an opportunity to gain work experience in a non-medical role and expand her knowledge in medical administration. This was the opportunity of a lifetime. Domineisha had to make a life changing decision. As the economic provider of her family, she had to decline this opportunity.
This campaign will directly impact the lives of LA Conservation Corps members like Domineisha Edwards by increasing their chances of securing a college education, internships and employment opportunities that lead to a successful career. Investing in the lives of these young people levels the economic playing field and allows for dreams to become a reality.
