NFTE Washington Metro’s GlobalGiving project to give seed capital to the participants in our local Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge did not receive the critical mass of donations we were hoping for.  We’d like to extend our thanks to those who did donate, your contributions are ensuring that more of our entrepreneurial youth have the means necessary to see their business plans come to life.  In addition to competing for seed capital for their business, students who compete in the Challenge learn valuable skills that are key to the creation of their business.

The students who received seed funding this year for outstanding business plans include Jada P., the co-founder of Models of Tomorrow, Inc.  Jada went through the ‘mini-MBA’ of a NFTE BizCamp this summer.  The two-week, full-day, intensive program fully prepares students with the entrepreneurial mindset they need to launch their own ventures.  Beyond the classroom business lessons and experiential activities and field trips, students also gain experience presenting to potential investors, practice thinking on their feet to answer questions, and learn how to hone a pitch that will captivate an audience.  Models of Tomorrow tackles the issue of teenage pregnancy and education of STIs through the application of mentoring that “molds young girls into sophisticated, confident women through runway modeling classes provided in the schools after the school day has ended.”  The hope is this will result in youth that understand the importance of abstinence in teen years therefore reducing teen pregnancy and STI rates in the nation’s capital.

Thank you again for your contributions to NFTE through the GlobalGiving platform!  Your contributions are helping our Washington Metro students fully realize the potential of their entrepreneurial mindset.
