Hello Everyone
It seems a long time since the summer heat which claimed so many lives here in Bihar. In fact we are preparing for the bitterly cold winter with its dangerous damp cold potentially deadly for the very poor who have no warm clothes especially children and the elderly.
It is fair to say we did not receive as many donations as we had hoped for this appeal, but I can assure the donations were used most carefully to relieve the suffering of people especially of course children.
We set up emergency water stations staffed by volunteers on the railway and set up a cool room at Rescue Junction with a nurse for those suffering from dehydration and heatstroke. We provided umbrellas for poor mothers with very young children on the trains to at least provide some shade. The temperature reached 49C that’s 120F in the shade as Bihar is up there as one of the hottest places in the world.
So thank you to those who donated we will be much better prepared this time next year and we now prepare for winter.
Deepak
