With our dance lessons and academic aid, we have empowered our children at Enlaces (At Risk Children Dance for Social Change.) Now you have the chance to send our two oldest dancers and gold medalists, Juan and Raul, to The School of the Body in Cartagena and to Dance Theatre USA in Orlando respectively. These are opportunities they would not have it weren't for our program, and you have the chance to make them a reality!
Juan and Raul lack the opportunities to turn their passion for modern dance into a full-fledged career. Like our other children at Enlaces, they live in an at-risk condition. Before our program, they had no activities to keep them mentally and physically developed. Although we have provided them with both the artistic venue and the educational supplements to ensure their creative and intellectual development, the doors open to them are still very limited.
Juan and Raul have earned gold medals through their hard work. They have the chance to travel abroad and participate in seminars that would help in expanding the list of opportunities they have to pursue their lifelong dream. This project consists of covering their travel expenses to the dance centers abroad that have given them scholarships. It would go a long way toward opening doors that children in their position don't have access to.
To date ENLACES works with 35 children. Part of the group is working on the first phase of the program, where we teach them how to understand their bodies through technique and corporal expression. Juan and Raul, along with several others, are working on the second phase, which guides them through their teen years, developing their abilities as artistic creators. It also focuses on letting them see the range of possibilities in the arts sector as adults. This project is an important step.
