This project will provide the necessary materials and funds to initiate and sustain a wide array of programs for socio-economically disadvantaged youth in Abaco, Bahamas. The Bahamian NPO "Lend A Hand Bahamas" will be managing the programs. This nonprofit is also currently established in Nassau, Bahamas. The long term goal of the organization is to create a youth centre if deemed necessary in the area. The programs will emphasize entrepreneurship, the arts, the environment, and agriculture, etc.
The challenges the community is facing: 1) Lack of constructive opportunities and activities for the youth 2) High rates of crime and violence among adolescents 3) Low exposure to and knowledge of foreign cultures 4) Lack of instruction in the arts (visual, theater, and musical) 5) Low family income levels
This project will provide constructive activities and new opportunities for the youth in the area centered around the arts, environmental education provided by Fishing for Families in Need, and sports. Through entrepreneurial and educational programs the children will supplement their public education while also learning the skills and mindset necessary to succeed no matter what your socio-economic status may be. Also domestic and international individuals will offer programs and activities.
This project will positively impact the lives of hundreds of children and adolescents from around Abaco. The different programs and program volunteers will positively impact the children and serve as good role models. New opportunities and enhanced learning will allow the children to yearn for a greater future. The energy and creativity of the youth will be directed towards entrepreneurship, sports, and the arts.
