Help Beso receive a vital operation

A microproject by St Gregory's Foundation
Help Beso receive a vital operation

Summary

Beso was 10 when he saw his mother die of cancer. It affected him very deeply, he ended up on the streets and had to leave school. In 2005 he was sent to a street children's centre but at 16 he was homeless again. Since 2010 he has been living at our shelter. On 28/12/13 he came back from work in pain. We called for an ambulance and he was diagnosed with an intestinal obstruction. He had an operation in which part of his gut was taken outside his body. He needs an operation now to repair it.

Challenge

Since Beso's mother died he has had no-one to look out for him. Even when he ended up on the streets he still went to school, but he could not buy books and proper clothes, he had to leave school. Despite all of this he would read everything he could lay his hands on. Even at the rehabilitation centre for street children he couldn't go to school. Now his is in our care we are like his parents. This means getting him the medical care he needs to he can earn a living and fulfill his dreams.

Solution

Beso's first operation was an emergency and could not be postponed, so it was done free of charge thanks to medical staff. We will need to pay for the second operation, which is essential to get Beso back to health. Your contributions will enable us to get him the operation when he needs it, which is as soon as possible. We already have donations adding up to $118.

Long-Term Impact

Beso has shown huge resilience and determination in his life. Even when he was on the streets, when he was able to earn money as a construction laborer he would spend it on books and magazines. Until recently he has been able to earn a living. With his health restored and the knowledge that he is cared for, Beso has every chance of a successful adult life.
