Baltimore Entrepreneurs Pay It Forward

Unfortunately, NFTE Baltimore’s project to fund micro-grants as prizes for our classroom competitions winners did not take off in the way that we had hoped.  We would like to thank everyone who did donate; our students could never reach their entrepreneurial dreams without you. NFTE’s innovative, hands-on curriculum lets young people learn essential entrepreneurship skills and attitudes through activities such as risk taking and team building. Even though we didn’t reach our GlobalGiving goal, we will still strive to bring that curriculum to the young people of Baltimore, empowering them to rise above their personal circumstances and take control of their future.

One of the key resources for showing students the power of entrepreneurship is hosting discussions with individuals who have already harnessed that power. Each NFTE classroom invites members of the local business community to speak to the students about the entrepreneurship skills NFTE teaches – such as opportunity recognition, creative problem solving and persistence – are essential in today’s hyper-competitive global workforce. These locally grown entrepreneurs can serve as mentors for the kids in their community. Recently NFTE Baltimore had some excellent speakers come to visit Patterson High School, Edmondson Westside High School, and Roland Park Middle School. The President of the Marine Arts Institute, the Chief Executive Officer of BTS Software Solutions, and the Managing Director of ValStone Partners, all led excellent discussions about their experiences as entrepreneurs in the Baltimore area.

Your donations helped bring our classrooms to life, either through our micro-scholarships or allowing us to give our student access to the best resources available.  Thanks again for your support through the GlobalGiving platform.
