The Americans Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center receives over 3000 incoming crisis calls, emails and live chats per year from desperate American women who are being abused overseas. Each minute on the international toll free crisis center hotline, 866-USWOMEN, costs $1.00 in toll charges. This Mother's Day we are asking for donations to our Minutes for Mom's Campaign to give moms a lifeline of hope. 100% of all donations will go directly to pay the toll charges.
American women move overseas for school, work and mostly, love. Most have children. By the time they are ready to reach out for help, the abuse has been going on for years. Afraid, alone, unable to speak the local language, isolated and threatened by the abuser, they reach out for help and contact the Americans Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center via our toll free number. Americans overseas were omitted from the Violence Against Women ACT, VAWA, so we must fund this life saving program.
By raising $10,000 in the Minutes for Moms campaign we will ensure that American moms in crisis will have access to a case manager or advocate for 10,000 minutes this summer, the time when most American moms flee home for safety with their children.
The project serves 500 women per year empowering them to find alternatives to a life of violence so their children grow up in violence free homes with their self-esteem in tact with the hope of stopping the cycle of violence in future generations. Their main method of contacting the organization is via the international toll free hotline 866-USWOMEN.
