Summary

The project is planned as an eye-opener to 50 school going children, informing them the various opportunities they can pick up from this big, big world. Coming from lower economic strata and from less literate families, these children have less opportunities to know about the variety of career choices. It is proposed to take the children to the famous institute in State capital, arranging for a motivational talk in the institute, taking them to places of historic and scientific importance.

Challenge

The deprived children we serve, with no one to guide them, are vulnerable to become juvenile delinquents or being abused. They have no idea about their future and are easily influenced by their parents/elders/friends/neighbours. They do not have chances to know about the variety of opportunities available in this vast world.

Solution

By taking the children to a famous institute and to places of scientific importance, we try to open up their eyes to the wide array of avenues. The exposure trip planned is aimed at creating interest in these children who could not be guided by their parents or elders and thus motivate them to form/reform their goals.

Long-Term Impact

Shifting the focus of a community from criminal activity to being productive members of society takes a generational shift. By educating the children, and ensuring that they have the skills to take advantage of opportunities presented to them, New Life enables children from these communities to lift themselves and their families out of poverty. This project will affect two of the twelve slums that were identified by Trichy police as most prone to criminal activity for three years.
