Summary

NFTE Baltimore works with 850 Baltimore City students to provide one-of-a-kind entrepreneurship programs. We're looking to fund field trips for our students to learn and understand the concepts of buying/selling products, setting price points, and negotiating.

Challenge

Students participating in the NFTE Baltimore program often lack experience applying critical entrepreneurship concepts, such as buying/selling products, setting price points, and negotiating. Without an understanding of these ideas, students often struggle to build a solid business plan. By providing students with hands-on experiences in which they must address these issues, students are able to develop a better understanding of entrepreneurship, and create a potentially successful business.

Solution

To help students learn about purchasing, pricing, and selling-including the concepts of negotiating, and buy low/sell high, NFTE Baltimore sponsors class visits to the wholesale district in New York. NFTE Baltimore provides $50 grants to students to buy products during the trip. Students then sell their products at school selling events, learning and practicing firsthand, the concepts of buy low/sell high, and profit- making. This profit is then invested in formation of their business.

Long-Term Impact

By working to keep at-risk students engaged in their school work, NFTE spurs its participants to graduate high school and dare to dream of a brighter future. Whether they pursue higher education, enter the workforce, or start their own business, NFTE instills an entrepreneurial mindset in young people so they can plan for success. Since opening its doors in 2002, NFTE Baltimore has reached nearly 10,000 students from low-income communities with entrepreneurship education programs.
