We are seeking to partner with the Portland Experience, a premier college internship program that takes place at University of Oregon's Portland Center for the Spring 2015 term. This career building internship will help the organization gain global recognition of life-saving programs for Americans experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault overseas, while giving an intern a paid, ten week, 20 hour per week, baptism by fire, journalism experience.
Raising awareness of our life-saving programs on a global level is an on-going challenge. By having a dedicated journalism intern, we will be able to reach deeper into the population of 6.5 million Americans living overseas, the 68 million that travel overseas annually, and the 750,000 American military personnel and their dependents overseas. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for a journalism major participating in The Portland Experience.
Having a journalism major dedicated to helping us reach global populations of Americans will result in more prevention of sexual assault and domestic violence, and also, enable us to assist more victims who will have the resources and knowledge to empower themselves to leave abusive relationships and return to the USA. This will provide an outstanding career starting opportunity for a journalism major.
The project serves 500 women per year empowering them to find alternatives to a life of violence so their children grow up in violence free homes with their self-esteem in tact with the hope of stopping the cycle of violence in future generations.
