Project Report | Dec 9, 2014
You ARE Our Hero!

By Julie Raynor | Project Leader

This past August, more than 100 children who stutter, speech-language pathologists, graduate students and volunteers gathered on the shores of Big Blue Lake in Holton, MI for an amazing week of laughter, tears, networking, learning and fun.

We would like to take the time to THANK EACH OF YOU for your generous donation to our program. Your donation to the Camp Shout Out Everyday Hero fund allowed our campers to realize that a Hero does not have to be a 'famous person'.  An Everyday Hero can be somebody who makes a difference in small ways every single day.  A Everyday Hero can be somebody who strives to try to conquer their fears whether it's a fear of high places or a fear of saying his or her own name in front of others because of stuttering. An Everyday Hero says what is on his/her mind even if talking  is a feared situation.

Just recently we received this email from a parent of a high school student who was able to attend Camp Shout Out this past summer:

“Camp Shout Out is the one place where my son feels like he belongs. It is a space where not only is he working on his communication skills, but where he also has friends. Friends who understand what he goes through daily. My son has been bullied about his stuttering, but when he comes home from Camp Shout Out he sticks up for himself. His confidence soars!”

Stories like this are what keeps each of us working as hard as we can to make a difference in the world for young people who stutter and we COULD NOT do it without YOU.

We are honored by your support of our program and hope you will continue to join us in making the world a better place for young people who stutter.
