Summary

The Door of Hope community in Freetown has over 100 active youths that are eager to receive computer proficiency training. Like tens of thousands of other youths in Sierra Leone, they have not received any instruction in or access to computers. By providing these computers - loaded with training software - they will become computer proficient - a vital skill needed for success in today's technology-driven society. This will help position them for success.

Challenge

This project will help eradicate the problem of computer illiteracy for over 100 youths in Wellington, a suburb of Freetown. Through providing these computers, they will learn how to use a computer extensively and benefit from the provided computer training sessions and software. We anticipate that this will help bridge the opportunity gap and release their potential and abilities.

Solution

Funds will be used to purchase 10 computers, install training software and ship them to Freetown. This project will provide direct access to computers for use by the youths at Door of Hope. Access to the computers and training will transform their lives.

Long-Term Impact

This training will transform the lives of participants as it will broaden their options and help expose them to new opportunities. Youths & young adults will become computer literate and proficient - and consequently viable and competitive in the market place. This will help them become independent and develop their careers - contributing to national development.
