A safe home for Wilkenson

A microproject by International Disaster Volunteers (IDV)
A safe home for Wilkenson

Summary

This project will provide a year of safe housing for 10 year old Wilkenson. After Wilkenson's parents died in 2009 his grandmother tried to care for him and his brothers, but she couldn't afford to feed them. So she was forced to abandon them at the HTDC orphanage. Wilkenson has been through a lot, but he's still one of the orphanage's funniest kids - and he loves soccer! But without the orphanage to keep him safe, Wilkenson would be forced to fend for himself as a street-kid.

Challenge

As an orphan, Wilkenson is among the most vulnerable of Haitian children. There isn't a nationwide child protection service operating in Haiti to provide for his basic needs. This means that, without your help, Wilkenson would be a homeless street-kid, leaving him vulnerable to exploitation and destined to a life of suffering and poverty.

Solution

By donating today, you'll help us provide the home Wilkenson needs to stay safe and to grow up with a fighting chance. You'll also help us provide caregivers to look after Wilkenson and ensure he has access to water and electricity.

Long-Term Impact

A safe home and care are essential for every child. By providing these for Wilkenson, you're giving him the foundations he needs to build a bright future.
