Germina didn't have a bright start to her life. Her mother died giving birth to her, and her family couldn't afford to care for her. They brought her to the Hands Together to Defend the Children Orphanage when she was just a few days old. She was sick and premature, so we weren't sure if she would survive. But Germina was a fighter, and now she's approaching her first birthday.
Children like Germina are very vulnerable in Haiti. There isn't a social safety-net in place to care for them. If it hadn't been for the orphanage, she almost certainly would have died. But the orphanage can only care for her because donors like you chose to give.
Germina beat the odds by just surviving, and today she's a beautiful, healthy baby. With your help, we'll be able to keep giving her the nutritious baby food, safe home, and health care she needs to keep thriving!
Moving these kids out of the unsanitary, crowded conditions where they lived for almost a year following the earthquake has massively improved their health and provide security. Their new, safe home is giving the kids a healthy, happy place to grow into tomorrow's leaders.
