This Challenge requires an indicator that gives a visual sign of water having been exposed to a sufficient dose of sunlight or UV-light for disinfection. Every year, due to the consumption of water contaminated with micro-organisms, diarrhea is the second biggest cause of death for children under five years of age worldwide. This solution could greatly benefit communities such as those in the peri-urban areas of Cochabamba, Bolivia.

This Challenge requires a rainwater harvesting storage tank for use in a wetland Region in India. Eighty percent of the 700,000 citizens of Kuttanad, a region in the coastal state of Kerala, have no access to clean water. This water scarcity results in over 20,000 cases of water related disease each year, millions of rupees in medical costs, and hours of physical labor spent collecting contaminated water daily by women and children.
