Give to this cause now and help make a difference!
This is why this charity is important to Erin :
|
Students Helping Honduras is working to allieviate the fourth leading cause of death for children under 5 in developing countries by providing fuel efficient stoves. Eliminating indoor air pollution improves health and increases economic and educational opportunities.
Any money won will go towards the Walk-a-thon's goal of creating a women's academy for emotional and financial support for the women of Copprome. These women will be able to join the 5% of Hondurans who have a college degree.

Project Needs and Beneficiaries
Siete de Abril is a squatter village in Honduras that is home to over 300 people, over 200 of which are children, living in abject poverty.By providing more fuel efficient stoves we will improve health which leads to fewer missed school days for children, and having to collect less wood for the stoves frees up more time for earning money for the adults. This is also a study through a U.S. University that will lay the groundwork for similar programs elsewhere if there are significant results.
Activities
These stoves will reduce respiration related deaths. By measuring particulate matter in the air and closely monitoring the families' health we will have quantitative data in our study to confirm the importance of reducing indoor air pollution.
