Programs

EDUCATION : SNSF believes that guaranteeing access to twelve years of formal education for all - specially the girl child is the collective responsibility of all stake-holders of a civil society within the geographical confines of a city/village TARGETING INDIVIDUAL CHILD: (In- School/Out-of-School) ! Endow with scholarship / studentship to continue education ! Provide complete medical check-up ! Provide training in theatre, music, dance, art & craft work ! Provide life-skills education through behaviour change communication workshops ! Facilitate exposure visits / excursions ! Provide gifts /material donations like uniforms, stationery, sweaters, cycles on special occasions ! Conduct academic examination through National Institute Of Open Schooling (NIOS), Min. of HRD, Govt. of India for Classes 3rd, 5th & 8th ! Facilitate academic examination through NIOS for Classes 10th & 12th TARGETING RESOURCE STRAPPED GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS: (Primary to Senior Sec. Govt. /Govt. Aided Schools): ! Enhance physical facilities aimed at impacting retention of students, specially the girl child through her adolescent years Construct additional classroom space Improve/construct washrooms Improve access to safe drinking water Improve teaching-learning transaction Provide access to science laboratories (physics, chemistry, biology & mathematics) Provide science book banks for encouraging students to opt for science stream at 10+2 level Provide access to general libraries for improving reading habit Provide access to computers Network with SCERT to impart reorientation training workshops for teachers Organise outside-the-classroom learning (field visits, excursions) Sponsor participation in inter-school competitions TARGETING CIVIL SOCIETY: (direct beneficiaries, local government administration, media, managements & students of private & govt. schools, resident welfare associations, corporate houses, politicians, NGOs) Organise street plays to sensitise, create awareness and encourage all parents to enrol c h i l d r e n into school Urge print & electronic media to make visible local non governmental initiatives in education and highlight their absence in the govt. arena aimed at alerting and inspiring speedy public action Organise inter-school competitions focussed on individual institutional efforts to contribute towards enhancing access to education for underprivileged. For e.g. private schools holding classes for out-of-school children after regular school hours Similarly sensitise & motivate other sections about their responsibility towards education of underprivileged children Facilitate corporate sponsorships & volunteering for all activities mentioned above Facilitate institutionalisation of certification of non-formal programmes through accreditation with credible institutions, like NIOS Enhance accountability, transparency and credibility through seeking partnership and wide networking HEALTH SNSF has designed workable models that are effective in creating access to minimum levels of basic health care services, particularly to communities and population sectors that are most vulnerable in un-served and underserved geographies TARGETING UNDER-SERVED / UNSERVED POPULACE (THROUGH MOBILE HEALTH DELIVERY SERVICES): Conduct general health care clinics Provide clinic-centred RCH (Reproductive & Child Health) services Building capacities of CBCs (Community Based Organisations) in delivery of RCH, HIV/AIDS sensitisation and awareness generation Provide specialised services e.g. oral health care, eye, cancer detection, surgical` correction of disabilities TARGETING GROUPS AT RISK/VULNERABLE TO INFECTIONS: Targeted Intervention Projects on HIV/AIDS for Transport Industry Workers, Commercial Sex-Workers, Homosexuals, Intravenous Drug Users & Migrant Workforce Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS TARGETING SCHOOL STUDENTS: General Health, Eye, Dental ENT check ups and follow up / referral treatment Adolescent sexual and reproductive health education and care services TARGETING CONSTRUCTION & OTHER INDUSTRIAL WORKFORCE THRU' COMPREHENSIVE WORKPLACE INTERVENTION: Include aspects of workplace living conditions, labour law compliances, occupational hazards and corresponding safety provisions, health check ups complete with follow up / referral treatment Facilitate access to a credible person-identity process for accessing banking, cooking gas, telephone and employment services for verification of credentials through networking with Labour-net SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODS: SNSF aspires to address the vast potential for bridging employment opportunities in our country, by enhancing employability skills among youth, specially employment of women TARGETING SOCIO-ECONOMICALLY MARGINALISED WOMEN: Empowerment through collective organisation of women into Self-Help Groups (SHGs) Facilitate access to micro-finance Impart skills in micro-entrepreneurial activities Impart skills and knowledge for leveraging group solidarity against gender violence and exploitation TARGETING ADOLESCENTS & YOUTH: Life-Skills Education covering aspects of physical changes during adolescence, coping with peer pressure, responsibly managing different societal roles, anger management, conflict resolution, leadership, negotiation abilities etc. Accredited short-term and long-term (basic & advanced) vocational training courses for enhancing employability and income generation. For e.g. courses in computers, personality grooming (beauty culture), cutting & tailoring, fashion designing, electronics, house hold and industrial electrical job-skills, nursery teachers' training, para-nursing (health care attendants), retail industry jobs, English speaking
