The target groups of GHOM are women/widows, old people, People With Disabilities, vulnerable children/orphans, girl child and youth especially those with HIV/AIDS. Mission

BACKGROUND OF GHOM GHOM is a community based organization which was started in 2008 at the community level then registered as a Group/Association 2010 with a group of people mostly women and some men. The target groups of GHOM are women/widows, old people, People With Disabilities, vulnerable children/orphans, girl child and youth especially those with HIV/AIDS. GHOM has an emphasis of gender in its program where we emphasize girl child education because the girls are the most vulnerable and affected as far as HIV/AIDS is concerned; girls are always the victims of early marriage if the parents cannot afford to pay for them school fees, so they would end up doing prostitution or working as house girls and from there, they are married off. GHOM was founded with a major aim of fighting HIV/AIDS and poverty among the orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) and Grannies using a holistic approach. Over the years GHOM has implemented four Main programmes, vocational Institute and life skills training (VLST), Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and the Project Restoring Hope for the Marginalized (RHM) which targets 60 grandmothers in Ihuru village and other surrounding villages in Maracha district. MISSION Mission to help the Marginalized by giving them funds for Health care, Education, Economic self sufficiency and giving them renewed confidence in their future in order to reduce poverty and HIV/AIDS in their families. OBJECTIVES OF GHOM 1. To contribute to the fight (prevent, treatment and mitigation) against HIV/AIDS amongst the Marginalized grandmothers, Orphans and Vulnerable children and sex workers. 2. To empower the Marginalized to access economic resources so as to reduce poverty. GHOM will adopt the following strategies to achieve this objective of which include:- Build capacities of her target groups with skill and knowledge in income generating activities. Support the target groups to access information on Market opportunities for their produce. Linking target groups to micro credit provider and negotiating for affordable credit terms. 3. To influence policy making process to be responsive to the needs of the Marginalized groups. This objective aims at creating an enabling environment for the marginalized to effectively engage in development and address the challenges they are faced with. This is done through the following strategies. Conducting research on specific issues affecting each target group. Working in partnership with other actors and sensing networks of like-minded organizations 4. To build/develop the organizational capacity to effectively and efficiently provide quality support to the target group. This will be achieved through the following:- GHOM will develop the organizational capacities in areas of financial management and administration programs and project management and development of the board. GHOM will network and partner by Joining alliances and signing M.04s with different stake holder to help refer work where necessary and learn from best practice from others who can perform different tasks. Fundraising is a key factor, with out a proper Fundraising strategy and to survive the test of times. In so doing, a lot more resources Mobilization will be geared for more organizational development

PROGRAMMES OF GHOM The Bring Hope for the Marginalized o This targets 60 Grand mothers and 100 orphans and vulnerable children living with their grand mothers or Primary & Secondary. The major activities here include: - food security by supplying garden tools and seeds to the families of Grand mothers, medical and health services to Grand mothers, HIV/AIDS awareness, scholastic materials to OVCs as well as mid day meals at school and school fees top-ups. o Fighting of tropical Malaria (a major killer in Africa) by provision of Mosquito Nets. Provision of food supply to the families of Grand mothers taking care of OVCs to cover the insufficiency of food supplies the grandmother face. o Counseling and guidance for OVCs and Grannies on HIV/AIDS, Family planning, STDs and ARVs Sexual reproductive Health rights program o Its main focus is Health and care with a keen interest in Sexual Reproductive Health with a bias on HIV/AIDS, STDS. VCT, Family Planning, Life skill planning. o Counseling and guidance, educational trainings. Community outreach. o Lobbying & advocacy the policy makers to revisit the gaps in the National Health policy to put into consideration the Marginalized groups of people like the HIV/AIDS People and the old women/grand mothers looking after the OVCs. o Voluntary counseling and testing programmes for HIV/AIDS and other STDs. Vocational and life skills training unit o Major courses offered include Tailoring and Design, Carpentry and Joinery (wood work), Brick Laying and Building construction, Art and Craft, Catering and Bakery, Domestic Home Economics, Hair dressing and styling (salon), Music dance and Drama, Agriculture or Farming practice and Computer training.
