Imagine what life would have been for them...

Friends,

A supporter of our dear cause shared this article from The Tampa Tribune with me a few days ago. The article focuses on Niger Republic, the place where our school, International Academy of Niamey (IAN), is located. Title says it all: In Niger, child marriage on rise due to drought. Please take a few moment to read the article that is attached to this report.

While reading the article was very disheartening, it also made me appreciate you more on what you have helped us to accomplish, and the long road that is still ahead of us. At IAN, one of our main objectives is to provide opportunities to more young girls in order to bridge the gap that places girls literacy rate at 15% versus 42% for boys (according to the CIA World Factbook).

Our goal for the 2012-2013 academic year is to increase our enrollment to 50 students, from 9 during 2011-2012, with a desire to have girls representing over sixty percent of that population. As school starts in only a few days on October 3, 2012, we are far from our fundraising goal that will enable us to reach our enrollment objectives.

Your support is needed more than ever. Please consider making a donation so we can obtain resources needed to meet the challenges inherent in fulfilling our mission to provide quality education to young girls in Niger Republic.

A Florida University Newsletter Noticed Our Efforts...

Dear Friends,

It is said that strong people stand up for themselves, and stronger people stand up for others. Through the eyes of the world and the young girls and boys of International Academic of Niamey (IAN), you will be counted amongst the stronger. It is a privilege and an honor to count you among those helping young girls and boys in West Africa to achieve their hopes and dreams through education.

When IAN opened its doors last year our students were desperate to learn. For some of them, even secondary education was considered luxury...

...when some girls as young as 11 year old were already convinced that they would never had the opportunity to attend secondary school. But thanks to friends like you, nine girls and boys completed their first year at IAN. Because of a very competent and dedicated staff, the school also achieved one hundred percent passing rate against Niger Republic national average of less than sixty percent. It is this effort that is recognized in University of South Florida (USF) Newsletter - Summer Edition. This is something that only you help achieved, and you should be proud of it.

Yet we still have a long way to go...because many more students are waiting for the same gift, the gift to receive good education.

That's why I hope you can find it in your heart to help the young girls and boys of IAN once again. The cost of running the school for the 2012-2013 academic year is estimated at $50,000 of which $5,000 were raised during our annual fundraiser back in June 2012. This year's goal is to accept at least 30 students.

Your support in raising the remaining $45,000 is needed more than ever. Thank you for any donation -- large or small -- that you can today.

Year End Results: 100% Success Rate.

The joy of being @ International Academy of Niamey
The joy of being @ International Academy of Niamey

In a country where less than 60% of students make it to next level, International Academic of Niamey (IAN) is proud to inform you that it has achieved 100% success rate for its first academic year 2011-2012 that ended on June 9, 2012. This would not have been possible without your monetary support and donations. Through your donations, we were able to accomplish the following:

  • Hired some of the best teachers in Niger Republic
  • Build an effective and efficient administration personnel
  • Building a computer lab
  • Provide free or low cost tuition to all our students

The aforementioned actions resulted in a 100% success rate for IAN. While we are proud of this accomplishment, we are keenly aware of our challenges for the upcoming years. Our goal for 2012-2013 is increase our enrollment level to fifty young girls and boys. This is an aggressive goals that will required a projected annual expenses of $50,000.

We continue to seek financial support in developing our ideal academic institution - an outlet for African students to learn and excel in academic programs that are significant to the future maintenance and growth of the people of Africa and their communities.

Our 2012 Third annual fundraiser helped raised $5,000 toward 2012-2013 academic year. We hope you will continue to support us in our efforts to raise the remaining $45,000. We will utilize every contributed dollar and asset to its highest and best value.

Thanks
