Homeless Appreciate the Lunches You've Provided

Each day, Burbank Temporary Aid Center distrbutes sack lunches for the homeless.  This past year has been especially challenging, with the growing number of homeless, as well as fewer donations of sack lunches.  Often, the sack lunch will be the person's only meal of the day and we try to fill it with healthful and filling items.

Not long ago, the local Salvation Army stopped serving meals for the homeless and referred all of the homeless to our facility.  This put a strain on our already limited resources.  But I remember the panic in thier eyes and voice, when they arrived at BTAC, worried that they might not be able to get anything to eat.  And then the gratitude, knowing they wouldn't go hungry.

As our economy has worsened, the number of those asking for lunches has increased.  Many are newly homeless, and are floundering as they try to navigate thier way through the "system."  For many, the lunch represents much more than a meal.  The caring human contact and kindness offered by our staff and volunteers goes a long way.

Thanks to your donations, we've not had to turn anyone away.  BTAC has been able to purchase food to make or supplement sack lunches for almost 400 homeless men, women and families.

Thank you for helping BTAC fight hunger among the homeless.

Thanks for helping us make it through the summer!

It doesn't seem quite real, yet, that the days are becoming a bit cooler and the holidays are just around the corner.  The summer at Burbank Temporary Aid Center (BTAC) is always a lean time for donations.  With school out and vacations planned, folks often forget that the poor and those who have fallen on hard times still depend on BTAC for food.

However, thank to friends like you, BTAC was able to keep up with the need for food during the lean summer months.  Local grocers made donations, churches collected canned goods, and where we did run short, your donation allowed us to purchase those things we needed.

I hope you feel good, knowing you were able to help us maintain our food supply and keep families from going hungry!

Although our shelves are now a bit bare, we know that as the holidays approach, you and many of our other friends will remember the continuing need and make certain BTAC has the food, (especially the holiday food) necessary to ensure the holidays are filled with warmth, family and wonderful, traditional meals.

Thanks again for your support.  It is appreciated and we do not take it for granted.

Shelter helped give homeless a break from the heat

The scorching heat of late summer in Los Angeles created health problems thousands in the area.  Now imagine being homeless and unwelcome in stores, restaurants and malls, etc.  The unbearable heat, coupled with unusually high humidity took a toll on the homeless, especially the elderly of the group.

Not only did Burbank Temporary Aid Center (BTAC) open up it's facility to offer a cool place for all of the homeless to take refuge, some of the most fail, seniors enjoyed a few nights in a local hotel.  It wasn't the most fancy place, but the sheets are clean and the air conditioning worked!  Getting a good night's rest was rejuvenating and helped them cope with the other issues in their lives.

The local hotels, do not donate or offer much of a discount on the rooms, so without your contributions, BTAC would not be able to provide this kind of assistance for our at-risk homeless.

Thank you for your support and caring.  It makes such a difference.
