The holidays were happy for BTAC's clients.

Once again, and with your help, Burbank Temoprary Aid Center was able to provide gifts for more than 1,000 children and youth.  Thank you!

Your donations were used to provide gifts for teens.  This is a big challenge every year.  We see donations of many Barbies and Tonka Trucks, Candyland and Chutes and Ladders games come in - all for younger kids.  But gift for teens, well, it is too often an after-thought. Your help allowed us to purchase items that teens would enjoy.

As I've mentioned before, although the kids are happy to have presents on Christmas morning, I honestly think the parents are most grateful.  I can't imagine how it feels to worry about just putting food on the table, let alone providing holiday gifts.  Peer pressure, television ads, etc. create high expectations.  Many parents just don't have the means to meet them.  But through Santa's Room, they have the help they need.

Thank you for making the holidays brighter for many children, and for easing the burden on thier parents.

Sincerely,

Food was available

After the holidays, things return to normal at Burbank Temporary Aid Center . . . almost.

People are still coming to us for food and assistance.  Volunteers still make time in thier schedules to help stock shelves.  Staff work with clients to provide services.  But one thing is missing.  No one is doing a food drive!

Once the holidays are over, the number of food drives drop off dramatically.  But the need is still there.  Often, we have to cut back the amount of food we give families, because we are afraid of running out.  But not this year!  Thanks to your help, BTAC has been able to provide food, even adding some fresh fruits and vegetables along the way.

We appreciate your support of the poor in our community.  Each day, we hear thier thanks for the assistance they receive.  But we know the thanks goes to our donors like you, who provides the resources necessary to continue this work.

Thank you,

Feeding the homeless

Each morning around 8:00 a.m., the homeless begin gathering outside of Burbank Temporary Aid Center (BTAC).  BTAC won't open for another hour and sack lunches won't be distributed until 10:30 a.m..  As 10:30 nears, the line grows.  It snakes down the block and around the corner as more and more homeless arrive.  By noon, the line will have disappeard, but more than 100 lunches will have been given out by BTAC and its workforce of volunteers.

Many times, area churches make the lunches.  But as word has spread about BTAC's lunch prograrm, sometimes there aren't enough.  That is where you come in.  Your contribution allows BTAC to purchase items for the lunches.  Not just chips and sweets, but tuna, chicken and meats to help make the lunches more filling and healthful.

On occasion, I have heard criticism about our wanting to provide better food options.  "Beggars can't be choosers!", is a favorite retort.  My response is that it doesn't matter.  They may be homeless, but deserve respect and care.

Your contribution to this program shows that respect and care.  We may not be able to change thier circumstances, but we can fill thier bodies with foods we, ourselves, would want to eat.

Thank you for your support.
