CIYOTA seeks to unite, transform and develop communities in Africa through education, volunteerism, humanitarianism, social leadership and entrepreneurship.
COBURWAS learning center (CLC) is a day care, nursery and primary school located in Kyangwali refugee settlement Hoima district. CLC provides quality education to vulnerable children and the rest of the community. Orphans enroll for free at CLC, where they receive a school uniform, two decent meals each day, and, most importantly, an education. CLC opened in 2009 with 40 children in Kindergarten, and in 2010 primary one and two were introduced with more 55 children enrolled. In 2011, also 30 children were enrolled to bring a total number of 120 children.
COBURWAS Students Hostels (CSH), CIYOTA rent houses in town near schools that offer quality education. We are increasing access to quality education by opening student hostels near the best schools in the region. By providing accommodation and food to children from surrounding areas that would otherwise attend inadequate schools, we remove geographic barriers to education. Students who stay at the hostels benefit from a strong sense of community and mutual support.
Beside the school work, our students are trained to be responsible leaders and social entrepreneurs. Students are empowered to go and start initiatives that are able to tackle social problems affecting their communities.
Scholarships are a key aspect of development as they directly invest into building human potential/capacity. This program helps to address the social and economic needs of less privileged and gifted children who are not able to attend school because of finances. CIYOTA offers scholarships to students from primary to University level.
COBURWAS Technical Education (CTE)
Most youth in our communities don’t have opportunity to attend academic education. COBURWAS Technical Education (CTE) is to provide technical and social entrepreneurship skills; we empower our trainees to be job creative and innovative, after the training they are able to start their own workshops and to train other youth for them to work as a group.
COBURWAS Technical Education (CTE) has opened in Kyangwali refugee settlement starting with tailoring & crafts; we are also planning to introduce computer training, masonry, carpentry and joinery.
CIYOTA opened started community microfinance in Kyangwali refugee settlement. We offer agriculture loans to farmers for deal with family expenses while waiting for the best market for their farm produce.
We also have business loans for people who want to start small business and those who would wish to maximize their already established businesses.
CIYOTA biggest income comes from Income Generating Projects such as agribusiness and social enterprises such as recreation centers, Internet café, phone charging, mention but few.
