Mission

Mission: Exposing the community, nationally and internationally to the concept of arts integration as a multi-faceted arts approach that seeks to affect all aspects of our life on a daily basis. Arts Integration as taught by Story Tapestries serves to develop the total person, social-emotional, intellectual and physical. Utilizing an arts integrated approach specifically tailored to the needs of each community, Story Tapestries teaches and demonstrates through performances and workshops the tools necessary for integrating the arts. * We will utilize and build upon a world-class network of artists, educators, and community members dedicated towards advocating and implementing the concept of arts integration. * We will expose audiences of children and adults to new, proven methods of arts integration through performances, installations and educational experiences produced and executed by Story Tapestries. Vision: Story Tapestries' purpose is to use the vehicle of the arts to establish a sustainable, national organization that connects and trains a world-class network of artists, educators, and community members. We seek to empower, educate and encourage children and adults to integrate the arts into all aspects of their lives. Lastly, we work with all of these groups to think about, question, reflect on, converse with and develop themselves and their local/global communities.

Programs

The not-for-profit organization provides for children and adults sustainable arts integrated performances, workshops and/or installations in educational institutions, museums, community centers, theaters, and colleges that cannot normally afford to pay for such events. In every community we are initially partnering with one institution and then expanding our programs to the schools, colleges, libraries, community centers, theatres and/or a museums surrounding the first location. Our hope is that over time we will build the network of people skilled in using arts integration as a tool for developing themselves and their community. We have completed a five-year strategic plan for the organization, which we are happy to submit if necessary. Four Main Categories of Activities: Performances: Story Tapestries Inc. creates entertaining, international, dynamic programs. Performances will be given in partnership with venues that could not otherwise afford the full cost of such programs. Story Tapestries Inc. artists can adapt almost all of their programs to fit any age group, curricular need or theme. Story Tapestries' artists weave the power of storytelling, dance, theatre, visual arts, and music to encourage their audiences and students to discover, tell, dance, photograph, compose and/or write their own stories with the goal of developing their total person (intellectual, socio-emotional and physical) through arts integration. The company creates the tapestries of their performances from the threads of their experiences as Actors, Storytellers, Writers, Dancers, Musicians, Directors, Choreographers and Singers. We can offer you an entertaining evening at the theatre for adults and children as well as an engaging event during the day filled with learning and fun. Story Tapestries will offer performances that target a full range of age groups with audience-appropriate subject matter that use performance arts to teach: literacy, social studies, nutrition, creativity and innovation, stories from around the World, team building, personal engagement with our environment and community, and about building hopes and dreams to create a better future. Performances are interactive and are designed to teach lessons that instill a sense of pride and responsibility, as well as inspire creativity and hone problem solving skills. The goal of all performances is to use arts integration to develop the total person. Workshops: Workshops take these concepts highlighted in performances to a deeper level of exploration in a classroom setting. We will focus on providing workshops in venues that could not otherwise afford the full cost. After we have completed the workshop, we will leave behind both written material and supplies the community can use to continue the work we began with them. Utilizing a multi-faceted arts approach specifically tailored to the needs of each educational institution and/or organization we works with, Story Tapestries' artists provide the children and their teachers the tools necessary for integrating the arts into their learning, teaching and/or personal development. Furthermore, as all of the artists are seasoned professionals, they are adept at working with all ages from early learners to adults. In educational institutions, our team will demonstrate/teach both children and adults the techniques needed to use the arts to approach core curriculum subjects such as math, science, reading and writing as well as character education. We will also teach in libraries and community centers, working with their community members as well as with staff, to develop their skills for integrating the arts into their programs to have a holistic approach with the community they reach. Besides offering workshops for young people, professional development workshops offer educators and community leaders the opportunity to think about new ways of constructing their lessons and/or conducting their activities to incorporate the arts and increase the effectiveness of their existing programs. Residencies: Residencies in schools, summer programs, and other community venues allow repetition and progression of lessons, and offer an opportunity to share lessons that become fully integrated in the participants' (students and teachers) daily lives. We will focus on providing residencies in venues that could not otherwise afford the full cost. Week long or longer residency programs are a valuable way to have in-depth arts integration experiences that teach conflict resolution, reading comprehension, story construction, math and deduction skills, and much more. Our diversely skilled artistic team will customize residency programs to meet the needs of participants in a chosen skill area, and will work in close partnership to ensure maximum learning opportunities for all involved. As dynamic master educators who offers a wide variety of arts integration residencies from that combine Dance and Storytelling, Music and Math, Theatre and Character education, Storytelling and Literacy etc, the Story Tapestries' team uses their tools of the trade to help the students young and old foster a deeper connection to the subject they're learning or the aspect of themselves or their community they are hoping to develop. Installations Installations allow the students be they, adults or children, to see the result of their arts integrated residency in a semi-permanent/permanent space. Our focus again will be to provide the funding and the artists' expertise to install the art in a variety of venues for educational institutions and community groups who could otherwise afford such an experience. The installation would come at the end of a lengthy residency one week or more. The students would have the opportunity to frame and hang their artwork, photographs, and writing in a semi-permanent/permanent space. They will have the opportunity to perform a student piece in that space. Our diversely skilled artistic team will customize experience to meet the needs of the participants and will work in close partnership to ensure maximum learning opportunities for all involved. People feel extremely empowered as individuals when they are able to step back and see the results of their hard work on a wall. Our ultimate goal with the installation projects is to empower the community to continue to change the art work in the future and grow as a team of artists, educators, students, and human beings.
