Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary

Critter Camp's Mission is to provide a safe, healthy, happy forever home to unadoptable small exotic and unusual pets. These animals are unadoptable due to advanced age, chronic illness, aggression and/or excessive fearfulness, generally from abuse or neglect. Many come to us from other shelters where they were to be euthanized. Our main goal is to provide care for as many of these forgotten pets as possible. Critter Camp's secondary goal is to educate the public on the needs of these pets for two outcomes. One is to help current pet owners provide better care of their pets, the second is to prevent impulse buying of these types of pets by creating educated potential pet owners. Critter C...

New Rescues & New Contest!

Black Jack and Critter Camp Mom
Black Jack and Critter Camp Mom

Thanks to your generous support Critter Camp has been able to rescue some more needy animals.

We welcome Ratties: Eclipse- was left at a pet store and considered unadoptable because she has aninoperable tumor, Terra Crazy & shadow all edler ratties that do not like people came from a family moving that could not take them along.

New elder guinea piggies Sugar and Oreo's owner has late stage cancer and could not care for them, also elders Ronan and Penelope 's owner just did not ahve time for them.

All are safe and loved now here at Critter Camp for the rest of their lives.

Critter Camp is also taking in a large group of rats from a recent rescue in MI where over 1000 pet rats were found in a condemed home - more info to come in a later report.

You can also stop by our website for NEWS as it happens! www.crittercamp.org

Another way you can help the rescues at Critter Camp is to VOTE- once a day Every day and share inviting others to vote too for Critter Camp in the Shelter Challenge:

And finally,

Critter Camp Mom recently lost one of her 3 elder rescue dogs to old age and multiple medical issues, and decided to go ahead and open her heart to another oldie. So Black Jack now helps out at Critter Camp. He is a 13 year old chow and basset mix, left at a pound byt his owner along with his lifelong buddy a pug- the pug was adopted but he was not. His time was up and thanks to a Senior dog rescue network Critter Camp Mom got the alert that he was going to die alone if no one spoke up for him that day. Since he is good with all animals he has been a seamless fit at the rescue - bringing smiles to all who meet him during his twilight time.

Thank you again! Enjoy your summer!

Exciting News & New Rescue!

Sally & Harry (see text)
Sally & Harry (see text)

Exciting News!!!! We have contracted with Animal Arts Design to provide a Needs Assessment and Site Plan for our new facility!!!!

http://www.animalarts.biz/

And we have contracted with Angela Smith of as.designs to create the building plans!!

We will keep you posted!!

You can follow our progress as well on our website: www.crittercamp.org

So Harry was a new rescue ferret that we took in from animal control recently - (he's there on the far right- settled right in in the pic) Anyway animal control calls us after we had him for a week that the owner called and wants him back! Ok #1 they lost this ferret, # 2 they didnt bother to ask about him for over 2 weeks! I said give them our number and we'll deal with it. Apparently the "owner" had given Harry, (and a cagemate!,) to friends because they were pooping all over and she thought they were potty trained....... she had gotten them free off Craigslist and that person told her they were- um no 50% is usually as good as it gets with ferrets & potty training. So she couldnt take Harry back anyway but didnt want to upset the friend! Well some friend, they lost your pet and didnt even care! So here was the cagemate all alone- and ferrets can die of loneliness- in a neglectful at best home. Ends up we agree to take her as well- enter Sally - the little brown ferret mid photo (looking at Ziggy who doesnt clean himself real well)

Turns out Critter Camp is the 6th home for these little guys, so they are done- they stay here & get to live out their lives in a stable loving safe home! The kicker is that when she brought Sally she told us that she had brought us two guinea pigs a year or so ago too! I strongly urged her to to get anymore pets until she was actually ready to keep them for their whole lives.

Don't forget our Foxy T - only available for another week!!

Thank you for helping us help the animals!
