Spirit Acres Update

Domino
Domino

An update on Domino, our Appaloosa stallion, who has cancer on the delicate pink skin on his underside.  Happily he seems to be settling into remission.  Our Vet prescribed a cream that we applied directly to the cancer.   Thanks to our global friends for the support and we will watch over this magnificent one and keep you posted.

One of our long time equine friends, Smokey, lost his battle with poor health and age.  He was a beautiful fellow and we will miss him dearly.

Spirit Acres Farm is a TLAER (Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue) certified organization.  Feed and initial medical care are the first steps in getting a rescue on the road to recovery.   But so often owners or caregivers do not have transport for the horses in need of medical aid to be transported to a place of safety.  Presently, it is Spirit Acres goal to obtain a 3 horse trailer for this purpose.  Our work is not limited to our rescue and sanctuary.  With a proper ambulance for equine emergency, we can expand to serve many far and wide.   We cannot realize this goal without donations.  Please keep this need in mind when contributing to helping those in need.

Our good friend Domino

To be counted among the many groups and organizations Global Giving sponsors is a real privilege and blessing to us. They reach out to so many in spreading awareness of ways others can help. And because of the generosity of those that respond, Spirit Acres Farm Equine Rescue and Sanctuaryis still able to operate in helping the helpless rescued horses from neglect and abuse. Daily life on the farm is expensive with the purchase of feed, hay, medical supplies and maintenance of equipment. But it is the support from the Global Giving community that has helped us to meet and overcome the challenges of emergency care. Many of the rescued come here with severe dental problems. Chloe, a mare saved from slaughter, with proper care to her hooves, limited exercise, plenty of good hay and balanced feed daily is making a healthy recovery and can soon return to the fields and graze with her friends. The out-of-the-ordinary circumstances come with regularity and is the nature of our business. Thank you Global Giving and supporters for helping us meet this challenge successfully in helping these beautiful horses progress to health and finding new happy forever homes.

Mustang Sally

Mustang Sally bares the original BLM freeze mark that identifies her as part of the legacy of the old west.  Poor Sally fell in an accident while the farrier was trimming her hooves. When she fell her neck was punctured on the farrier’s stand.  Aside from the damage to her neck and neck muscles, the fall fractured her 6th vertebrae. The fast action on everyone’s part was a big step to saving her life and her steady recovery can be attributed to her determination and the special care she is getting from those who love this special horse. Check out her story and see her pictures and progress on face book. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Spirit-Acres-Farm-Equine-Rescue-and-Sanctuary/296418097416. Sally’s recovery for these 4 weeks is not without extra cost.  In addition to Veterinarian visits and supplies to keep the wound clean and free of flies, her treatment includes electrolytes, probiotics, pain meds and antibiotics. Our medical needs here at the farm average about $500 a month. Please help us keep Sally and others here with special medical needs stay healthy.
