Turkish Philanthropy Funds

Turkish Philanthropy Funds (TPF) seeks to maximize the impact of giving, with a particular focus on Turkey. TPF's mission is to help donors realize their philanthropic goals to meet community needs in the US and in Turkey. With the plethora of NGOs, knowing where to invest your charitable dollars is a challenge. TPF finds and funds the most effective programs, and partners with them to maximize results. Our aim is to take philanthropy beyond the "feel good" into significant and measurable impact. TPF does this by strengthening individual giving and by providing information, solutions and community.

Three Weeks Left!

Because of My Mother
Because of My Mother

Dear Gracious Donors and Supporters of Girls in Turkey,

We officially have three weeks until the end of 2013, which means we have three weeks to fund 14 girls before 2014! We're just over 50% of the way there, but I know we can do it.

Each young girl will receive $400 per year to buy books, lunch and pay for transportation to and from school. It's scary to even think about where these girls would end up without your generous donations. But we've learned girls with scholarships have aspirations higher than the moon.

A recent documentary was made that follows five potential scholarships recipients around their home towns with their families. The determination and drive of each young girl to convince her parents she deserved to be in school and that her education would benefit the whole family was jaw dropping. Watch the trailer here. These girls do not just appreciate your donations, they live for them. They know that becoming an English teacher or any other profession will pull themselves and their family out of poverty.

Any donations counts - any amount will put a smile on her face. Spread the word, these girls are just looking for an opportunity to turn their lives around. Remember, we have until December 31st!

Thank you again for your continued generosity and support. You're awesome.

Update from Special Education School

Special Education School in Eskisehir
Special Education School in Eskisehir

Hello, hello!

We're very excited to share with you photos from the opening of the Special Education school in Eskisehir. Prior to the build, no one ever thought to build an elevator in the school. But just after opening, the problem arose. Students were being carried from one floor to the next because there was no other way to get to class. The school reached out to TPF and our donors responded! With the help of GlobalGiving, we were able to raise enough funds to build this elevator. The students are now able to have stress-free days, not worrying about how to get to their next class!

Wondering the background on Autism in Turkey? Read a blog written by an expert in the field here: https://www.tpfund.org/blog/2013/03/lets-talk-about-autism-in-turkey/. The funds were split between building the elevator and providing free education to children with Autism.

The funds live on! Through each gift a child learned something new, a student benefitted. We thank you immensely for the choice you made to support this cause. Please check back to our GlobalGiving site periodically for new projects! If you would like to join our newsletter, click here.

All the best,

Melis

Two New Grants for Gender Equality in Turkey

Future Scholarship Recipients
Future Scholarship Recipients

TPF is pleased to announce our most recent grants towards gender equality in Turkey! As we mentioned in our previous posts, it is proven that if a girl receives an education or learns a trade, she will be much less likely to be married before her 18th birthday.

Therefore, we have focused our efforts on supporting organizations whose missions accomplish just that. The first of our two grants was given to Cagdas Yasami Destekleme Dernegi in the amount of $12,445.00.  The funds were raised from our Mother’s Day campaign and TPF’s Birthday Campaign to support girls education. The amount given has been allocated to provide high school scholarships to at least 20 girls and university scholarships to 2 girls! We love seeing our donors kind gifts go to work!

Our next groundbreaking grant was given to an organization in the eastern region of Turkey called Van. There, you can find a small but powerful organization that trains young women to weave kilims (hand woven rugs). These girls tend to be the sole breadwinners in their family. The organization also provides home schooling to the participants during the day. Some of the girls come to the classes without any prior education and learn to read and write, and begin earning money for their family. Last month, TPF was able to grant their organization enough funds to build a new workshop, providing access to a whole new group of girls.

We can’t thank you enough for all your help along the way!

Please keep up to date with all of our workings on www.tpfund.org and at @tphilanthropy on Twitter!
