Older Lovable Cats

Carson
Carson

Hundreds of cats come through our rescue each year and most find their new home within 3 months. Some are older cats and it may take four times longer for them to be adopted than the younger cats and kittens.  Since November is Adopt-a-Senior-Pet Month, we wanted to tell you the rescue stories of some of our senior cats.

Meet 8 year old Carson, a typical sassy calico. She spent 10 months with various fosters at New Beginnings Cat Rescue, and also spent time at the adoption center. In September of 2013 she became very ill with acute hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease).. All the instability in her life caused her to become depressed and she refused to eat. The vet surgically inserted a feeding tube into her esophagus. Her sassiness prevailed and she got better.  This past October, a year after almost dying, Carson was adopted into a loving home.

Next, we have Mikey & Newton, these 5 year old black and white Tuxedo brothers were both rescued from being euthanized, coming from a hoarder situation. Both cats tested positive for FIV and both had to have full mouth extractions, leaving each with only 2 teeth. These handsome boys are both happy and playful and are ready to be adopted into their forever home.

Next there is 7 year old Tess, a beautiful gray and white Persian mix who beat the odds thanks to receiving the right treatment for hepatic lipidosis.  A healthy Tess is now ready to be adopted.

Last but not least is 6 year old Chrystal, a beautiful gray and white Russian Blue mix. She was rescued from a local kill shelter and is now looking to find a wonderful home with a loving family.

Thank you for supporting our project on Global Giving.  Without your support, I shudder to think where these precious senior cats would be today.  Thankfully, they will enjoy the rest of their 9 lives feeling full, warm and loved.

Catalina

Little Catalina is a young mother cat who, just prior to giving birth, was taken to an animal shelter where she delivered her 4 kittens. As their allotted time was running out, the shelter notified us of the urgent situation. New Beginnings Cat Rescue took the mom and kittens and lined up a foster family to offer them a safe environment for the mother to raise her babies.

As the attached video shows, they all look very comfortable and the kittens are thriving.  Before too long, they will be vetted and ready to find their forever home.

Thank you for financially supporting our efforts to save these precious baby kittens.  We couldn't do it without you.

6 Plus 1

Shelly
Shelly

New Beginnings Cat Rescue receives emails daily from the local animal shelters notifying us about specific cats whose time is running out. They must be tagged by a rescue organization or, sad to say, they will be put down.

In one particular rescue this spring, there were 2 kittens with their mother, as well as 3 orphaned kittens, whose time had run out. The 6 cats were tagged by NBCR and, with foster families ready, a volunteer heads over to the shelter to rescue the momma cat and all 5 kittens.

The challenging part of any rescue is balancing the number of cats rescued with the number of foster families or available space in our adoption center.  So it was, when the volunteer started gathering up the cats, she noticed there was 1 little kitten, all alone and not tagged by any rescue.  His owner surrendered him to the shelter that same day. He was in the isolation area, in a cage, all by himself, trembling in the corner, very scared. The volunteer put him in the carrier with the other 3 kittens. There wasn't a hiss or a growl. I guess they knew he was in the same boat.

When asked if she got all the cats that were tagged, her answer was “all 6 plus 1”.

Thank you for donating to New Beginnings Cat Rescue.  With your financial help, there just has to be room to rescue 1 more homeless kitten.
