The Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company seeks to explore the original theatrical practices of the acting companies of Shakespeare's time; to provide high quality productions of works by Shakespeare and his contemporaries to regional theatre audiences; to provide local actors, directors, and stage managers the opportunity to work with these wonderful scripts and to receive training in an original practice approach to Shakespeare's plays; and to maintain an organizational philosophy in which theatre practitioners participate in the administration of the company on a regular basis.
The Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company produces 4 full-length productions of Shakespearean plays each year. Each production tours to multiple venues within the state of Michigan and in neighboring states, providing high quality productions of Shakespeare's plays for regional audiences. The company has toured to distances as far as Virginia, Iowa, and New York City. The company also produces significant educational programming, including daycamps for students in elementary through high school, classroom workshops from students from elementary through university levels, special matinee performances for high school students, and a once yearly high school residency, in which Pigeon Creek's actors rehearse and perform a full-length play alongside a cast of students from one West Michigan high school, acting as mentors to the high school actors.
