Accelerate Women Now Final Report

Accelerate Women Now
Accelerate Women Now

Dear Donor,

Agora women entrepreneurs are implementing innovative, market-based solutions to today's most pressing social and environmental challenges, such as bringing waterless toilets to the slums of Lima, connecting cacao farmers in Belize with high-end chocolate markets in the US, installing complete water infrastructure solutions in Chile to connect communities to remote water sources, and reforesting Mexico by selling re-plantable live Christmas trees.

Your support is critical to accelerating the growth of these high impact women owned companies that are redefining success in business. We re-launched the Accelerate Women Now initiative in 2013 with Half the Sky movement. As part of the initiative, we wrote an article that was published in Forbes along with a series of interviews (part 2, part 3) about the need to support women entrepreneurship globally. Thanks to our concerted push to get more outstanding women into our program, we have increased the number of women owned or co-owned companies in our Accelerator from 24% of the class of 2011 to nearly 60% of the class of 2014. We aspire to operate the most gender-balanced accelerator in Latin America.

We appreciate your support and wish you a wonderful year ahead.

Women as Agents of Change in Latin America

Agora Women Entrepreneurs with Melanne Veerver
Agora Women Entrepreneurs with Melanne Veerver

Dear Donor,

Thank you for your generous donation to Accelerate Women Now. Your contribution helps us to build a thriving community of women entrepreneurs in Latin America who are committed to using business to improve their communities and the world. Together, we are working to level the playing field for women innovators, leaders, and entrepreneurs who are forging a new path for development. We are investing in the greatest resource the world has to offer: high-impact human potential.

Many women entrepreneurs in Latin America become caught in a vicious cycle in which they are unable to access capital due to a lack of credentials, but are also unable to gain the necessary credentials without capital. Your donation has allowed Xochitl Palacio to be put in touch with strategic partners for her company through Agora’s Accelerator Program.  Agora women entrepreneurs harness the market to generate shared value for all key stakeholders - creating jobs, providing critical goods and services in under-served communities, and helping to protect the environment.

With your support, we are getting the right kind of capital and support to those best poised to create impact.

With gratitude and appreciation,

Thembi Mdachi, Associate

Accelerate Women NOW : Impact Investing in Action

Xochitl & Gabriel on Women
Xochitl & Gabriel on Women's Panel

The Accelerate Women now campaign has helped two women entrepreneurs from Latin America attend Impact Investing in Action, a conference that was held at Georgetown University to help impact companies raise capital for their businesses. The conference brought together the brightest thought leaders and practitioners in government, investment, social enterprise, impact entrepreneurship and universities- all coming together to help strengthen the impact movement. Two phenomenal women entrepreneurs, Xochitl Palacios and Gabriel Flores, participated in a panel featured at the conference titled 'Building the Ecosystem to Support Women Entrepreneurs in Latin America.'

Around the world, women entrepreneurs face a myriad of social, economic and cultural challenges that inhibit them from launching new ventures and building them into thriving enterprises. Latin America is no different. The panel analyzed the current ecosystem, its strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for collective engagement and partnerships to more effectively unleash a new generation of successful female entrepreneurs in Latin America.

Former Ambassador at Large for Global Women’s issues, Melanne Veerver, introduced the speakers for the women’s panel. Your support allowed Xochitl and Gabriel to share about some of the challenges they have faced in establishing their businesses in Latin America. Their unique perspective strengthened the conversation. Agora Partnerships appreciates all your support towards empowering women to become agents of change.
