Programs

As the first facility of its kind in the Southwest, Ryan House offers unique services aimed not only at caring for the children, but for the family as a whole. Respite care is offered at Ryan House so that families providing round-the-clock care for their child may have up to 28 days a year for reprieve. This break allows parents to revive relationships with their other children, reconnect with their spouse and recharge for the journey ahead. Palliative care is a concept embraced by Ryan House that focuses on improving the quality of life of patients, minimizing suffering, optimizing functions and providing opportunities for personal growth. Another service provided at Ryan House is end-of-life-care which allows families a sanctuary of support consistent with clinical, cultural and ethical standards. For children with life-threatening conditions and the families who care for them, Ryan House serves as a much needed friend and support system. The home-like setting at Ryan House holds a variety of therapy rooms which give the children opportunities to grow, learn and explore during their stay. The Sensory Room is a favorite among the children because it is awash with lights, colors, sounds and textures designed to stimulate the senses. While the Sensory Room may be colorful, nowhere in the house produces more creativity than the Art Room. Crafts and activities are always in progress along with half finished puzzles, loads of dress up clothes, and paintings in progress. The Hydrotherapy Room houses an indoor pool which promotes relaxation, improved sleep and pain relief, while the Music Room is full of fun instruments ready to be played. The children participate in a variety of other therapies during their stay and are showered with loving care that complements the regular care routines provided at their own homes. Because Ryan House is funded solely by charitable contributions, all of the services at Ryan House are available at no cost to the family so that all children in need have access without regard to the ability to pay.
