Americans Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center

We work with abused American women and children in foreign countries to provide domestic violence and child abuse advocacy, resources and tools so that they can navigate the complicated jurisdictional, legal & social international landscapes, to be able to live free of abuse either in the foreign country or back in the United States via an international toll free crisis line, 866-USWOMEN, accessible from 175 countries, serving a population estimated at 6 - 7 million American civilians overseas.

Volunteer training

We just completed our first 30 hour international crisis line advocate training of 2009! After completion of the training, advocates commit to a minimum of 1 year, six hours per week on the crisis line, or 312 hours. Most of our crisis line volunteers provide over 500 hours per year. The crisis line received 1182 calls or emails in 2008 from 56 different countries. Our volunteers are vital to the work we do. Because of their dedication and commitment, we are able to provide 24 hour service on the crisis line. We are always grateful for the financial support we receive through Global Giving because it enables us to conduct these trainings. We will be conducting 4 trainings this year, an increase from last year, and are planning our next one in May 2009.

Guyana, Romania and Minutes for Moms

Crisis calls are a critical first step to safety
Crisis calls are a critical first step to safety

We are gearing up this month for our Minutes for Moms Campaign. Every phone call we receive on the international toll free hotline costs the organization between $1.00 to $4.00 per minute just in toll charges. Donations to our Minutes for Moms Campaign will go directly to pay these crisis line bills which are so critical to a vitims welfare.

We received calls from Guyana and Romania in the month of September which reflects that our outreach efforts are working. A big thank you to all of you who donate to us and recognize the value of our work!
