MAM's Sickle Cell Project March-May 2014-Report

March 2014 Sickle Cell activities:- Maharashtra Arogya Mandal (MAM) conducted free sickle cell health check up camp from 29th to 31st March 2014. During the Pune to Dhadgaon journey we had medical checkup and medicinal kit was given to our 7 old diagnosed sickle cell patients at Dhule, Maharashtra.

On Sunday 30th March 2014, 310 old diagnosed sickle cell patients were clinically examined and were given free medications. Also screening of new 97tribal individuals was done among which 39 were diagnosed as carriers and 27 patients were identified as sufferers. Advice and counseling regarding the dietary and behavioral regime was given to both old and new patients. The carriers were provided with counseling. Emphasis was given on pre/ post marital guidance.  The 31 individuals were diagnosed as without sickle cell disease were also guided for this socio-medical problem. 

On Monday 31st March 2014 the work started with the memory prayer of our mentor late Founder Secretary Dr. Dadashaeb alias S.T. Gujar. On this occasion the sickle cell team and the sickle cell patients prayed and started the work with the distribution of Nutritional food supplement and meal to sickle cell patients.On Monday 31st March 2014 similarly 278 old patients had been given examined and provided with medications and 57 new tribal individuals were screened for sickle cell disease. In newly screened 14 patients were diagnosed as sufferers and 33 were diagnosed as carriers and 10 individuals were diagnosed as normal i.e. without sickle cell.

In this sickle cell camp we had eye checkup from expert Opthalmologist of H.V.Desai Eye Hospital Pune. The 68 tribals undergone eye check up Essentials Medicines were provided. One patient was found to have multiple chorioretinal atrophic changes who was referred to Kantabai Shah Eye hospital at Nandurbar (unit of H.V.Desai Eye Hospital Pune)All the individuals were from different tribal parts of Nandurbar, Dhule district of Maharashtra and from the neighboring state viz. Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh mostly from low socio economic class.

Pune Public Health Conference 2014   was organised by School of Health Sciences, University of Pune 25th and 26th January 2014 in this a preconference seminar on Genetics in Public Health Systems was inaugurated by Dr.S.L.Kate Head Sickle Cell Department Maharashtra Arogya Mandal. In special Platform presentation he also delivered a lecture on Common Blood Genetic Disorders in India on this occasion

 

May 2014 Sickle Cell activities:-

Maharashtra Arogya Mandal (MAM) conducted free sickle cell health check up

camp from 24th to 27th May 2014. During the Pune to Dhadgaon journey we

had medical checkup and medicinal kit was given to our 7 old diagnosed sickle

cell patients at Dhule, Maharashtra.

On Sunday 25thMay 2014 215 old diagnosed sickle cell patients were clinically examined and were given free medications. Also screening of new 86 tribal individuals was done among which 51 were diagnosed as carriers and 20 patients were identified as sufferers. Advice and counseling regarding the dietary and behavioral regime was given to both old and new patients. The carriers were provided with counseling, emphasis was given on pre/ post marital guidance. The 15 individuals were diagnosed as without sickle cell disease were also guided for this socio-medical problem. During this camp each indexed patient was advised to screen his entire family members for sickle cell.

On Monday 26th May 2014 similarly 308 old patients had been given examined and provided with medications and 31 new tribal individuals were screened for sickle cell disease. In newly screened 3 patients were diagnosed as sufferers and 17 were diagnosed as carriers and 11individuals were diagnosed as normal i.e with out sickle cell disorder.

All the individuals were from different tribal parts of Nandurbar, Dhule, Jalgaon districts of Maharashtra and from the neighboring state viz. Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh mostly from low socio economic class. During this camp we distributed nutritional laddus to sickle cell patients. Also we have advised index patient to screen the entire family for sickle cell disorder.

Sickle Cell Activities – January 2014-Report

Maharashtra Arogya Mandal (MAM) conducted free sickle cell health check up camp from 25th to 27th January 2014. During the Pune to Dhadgaon journey we had medical checkup and medicinal kit was given to our 7 old diagnosed sickle cell patients at Dhule, Maharashtra.

On Sunday 26 Jan. 2014 280 old diagnosed sickle cell patients were clinically examined and were given free medications. Also screening of new 99 tribal individuals was done among which 43 were diagnosed as carriers and 15 patients were identified as sufferers. Advice and counseling regarding the dietary and behavioral regime was given to both old and new patients. The carriers were provided with counseling, emphasis was given on pre/ post marital guidance.  The 41 individuals were diagnosed as without sickle cell disease were also guided for this socio-medical problem. 

On Monday 27 Jan. 2014 the work started with the memory prayer of our mentor late Dr. Dharyasheel Shirole (Senior pediatrician of Pune) and Smt. Hausabai Kate. mother of Dr.S.L.Kate (Head Sickle Cell Dept.). On this occasion the sickle cell team prayed and started the work with the distribution of Nutritional food supplement and meal to sickle cell patients.

 On Monday 28th Jan. 2013 similarly 324 old patients had been given examined and provided with medications and 36 new tribal individuals were screened for sickle cell disease. In newly screened 11 patients were diagnosed as sufferers and 13 were diagnosed as carriers and 12 individuals were diagnosed as normal i.e. without sickle cell.

All the individuals were from different tribal parts of Nandurbar, Dhule district of Maharashtra and from the neighboring state viz. Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh mostly from low socio economic class.

Sickle Cell Activities –September 2013-Report

Maharashtra Arogya Mandal (MAM) sickle cell department  conducted free sickle cell health check up camp from 28th
to 30th September 2013. During the Pune to Dhadgaon journey we had medical checkup and medicinal kit was given to our 5 old diagnosed sickle cell patients at Dhule, Maharashtra.

On Sunday 29th September 2013, 274 old diagnosed sickle cell patients were clinically
examined and were given free medications. Also screening of new 128 tribal individuals was done among which were diagnosed as 44 carriers and 51 patients were identified as sufferers (patients).
Advice and counseling regarding the dietary and behavioral regime was given to both old and new patients. The carriers were provided with counseling, emphasis was given on pre/post marital guidance.  The 33 individuals were diagnosed as without sickle cell disease were also guided for this socio-medical problem. 

On Monday 30th September 2013 similarly 284 old patients had been given examined and provided with medications and 71 new tribal individuals were screened for sickle cell disease. In newly screened 18 patients were diagnosed as sufferers (patients) and 36 individuals were diagnosed as carriers and 17 individuals were diagnosed as normal i.e. without sickle cell.All the individuals were from different tribal parts of Nandurbar, Dhule district of
Maharashtra and from the neighboring state viz. Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh mostly from low socio economic class. During this camp distribution of Sweaters, Cloths and Nutritious food supplement was done to sickle cell patients. During this camp in both the days total 69 sickle cell patients were newly diagnosed which is highest number ever recorded during the screening.

SickleCell Activities – November  2013-Report

Maharashtra Arogya Mandal (MAM) conducted free sickle cell health check up camp from 23rd
to 25th November 2013. During the Pune to Dhadgaon journey we had medical
checkup and medicinal kit was given to our 5 old diagnosed sickle cell patients
at Dhule, Maharashtra.

On Sunday 24th November 2013 279 old diagnosed sickle cell patients were clinically examined and were given free medications. Also screening of new 87 tribal individuals was done among which were diagnosed as 37 carriers and 21 patients were identified as sufferers(patients) . Advice and counseling regarding the dietary and behavioral regime was given to both old and new patients. The carriers were provided with counseling, emphasis was given on pre/ post marital guidance.  The 29 individuals were diagnosed as without sickle cell disease were also guided for this socio-medical problem. 

On Monday 25th Nov. 2013 similarly 284 old patients had been given examined and provided with medications and 51 new tribal individuals were screened for sickle cell disease. In newly screened 14 patients were diagnosed as sufferers (patients) and 26 individuals were diagnosed as carriers and 11 individuals were diagnosed as normal
i.e. without sickle cell.

All the individuals were from different tribal parts of Nandurbar, Dhule district of Maharashtra and from the neighboring state viz. Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh mostly from low socio economic class. During this camp distribution of Sweaters, Cloths and Nutritious food supplement was done to sickle cell patients.

Protective accessories like hot water bags, cotton and woolen blankets; woolen caps were donated by individual donors and voluntary organizations. Sickle Cell patients will be benefitted as these
accessories will protect them from extreme cold and lessen their pains.
