Kisimenyi Profile

With our partner schools in Kenya now on holiday for the summer of 2014 until late September, we are taking the opportunity to get on with some major projects without causing any disruption to learning. At Makwasinyi we have started work on what is the 52nd classroom we have built or renovated since our inception in 2008, while elsewhere work continues apace on our inaugural staff house. We are also making arrangements for our feeding programme for next term, which will involve the purchase of over 15,000kg of maize, rice and beans for 1,200 pupils, whilst we continue to work on plans for two exciting major infrastructure projects, including at a new 7th partner school !

In Kisimenyi following more than two years of tireless construction work we opened the first part of a brand new school this summer.  This includes twelve spacious classrooms, a dedicated nursery school, a library plus offices and a staffroom, along with safe and hygienic sanitation facilities, 80000 litres of rainwater storage capacity andmore than 4000 textbooks and reading books.

Car wash for Kenya

Car wash 2014
Car wash 2014

On Saturday 26th April Kids4Kenya held a Car Wash to support the Kisimenyi Schools building project in Towson, MD raising $760 - 100% of which will go directly to the Project.

Given that the cost of feeding one child is $0.10 for each school lunch, the amount raised will enable 30 children to be feed for an entire year at Kisimenyi.

The work in Kisimenyi continues - with two complete classroom blocks and many other facilities now operational, the 550 students at Kisimenyi are seeing the many benefits delivered through the building and operations support provided by Kids4Kenya and African Promise

Thank you for building us a beautiful new school!

Kisimenyi - Thank You!
Kisimenyi - Thank You!

Those are the words of a pupil that has benefited from the transformation of Kisimenyi Primary School, where the opening of the new school in September 2013 has had a profound impact.

But 2013 was not just about our work at Kisimenyi. It was also the year we launched a major pupil feeding programme. And supplied a record number of books and desks. And raised more funds than in any previous calendar year. In fact, whichever way you look at it, 2013 was the most successful of our six years as a charity.

We're grateful to the many of you who played a part in that success. We have our eye on even greater achievements in 2014. But we cannot get there without your continued support; we hope you will be able to help us.
