Fundraising and Progress Report #7

Thank you again for partnering with us. We could not carry out this work without you.

As FORUDEF gets closer to reaching the funding goals for its juicing initiative, it has been able to be more intentional and consequently, more effective in its marketing. FORUDEF now sells its juice products regularly in markets in Buea and the neighboring town of Limbe. As knowledge of FORUDEF’s processing and sale of juice grows, FORUDEF is seeing their sales grow as well. As a result, they are able to process more fruit, refine the process, and involve more local women in the initiative for the purpose of generating income.

With the expansion in marketing and sales, FORUDEF is pleased to see the success of this initiative grow. The secondary impacts of this include increased community health as a result of regular fruit consumption, and income generation opportunities for women.

Progress Report #13

We are greatful for your continued partnership. Here is some exciting news from the field:

According to the long-term nutrition program plan, the nutrition program has been implemented in an increasing number of villages.  In March, the nutrition program was implemented in Muea. Due to time constraints, the first two phases of the program were implemented over two consecutive days, instead of the usual three days for the first two phases.  Most of Muea’s female community leaders and members joined the program, such that there were 17 women participating.  Three FORUDEF staff led the program over the two days.

On the first day, the participants joined in the training workshop, where the rationale and foundation for a healthy diet was reviewed.  The Muea participants discussed the components of a healthy, balanced diet; common ailments that result from an unbalanced diet; positive health and lifestyle benefits of nutrition; and how to meal plan in a way that incorporates nutritious practices. Phase two of the nutrition program was implemented on the second day, where the participants and FORUDEF facilitators prepared traditional dishes that incorporated the balanced diet principles discussed in the previous day’s training.  The participants and facilitators discussed the methods used in preparation and the nutrients in each dish, and shared the meal together.  During the meal, FORUDEF staff reviewed information discussed in the training workshop and answered the participants’ questions.

Feedback from the training was that the women found it enlightening and insightful, and understood the link between healthy eating and sickness in their families and community.  FORUDEF will monitor progress and commitment towards healthy eating on their scheduled return trips to Muea over the next six months. In addition, FORUDEF plans to implement the nutrition program in Akwaya village in April, and continues to monitor the progress of villages and groups that have participated in the past.

Fundraising and Progress Report #2

Once again, thank you for your continued generosity and support. We could not achieve our goals and objectives in local communities without you.

We are excited to report that we have almost raised the funding needed to provide the annual salary for a Project Development Officer.

With more staff FORUDEF will be able to carry out more work in the community. Additionally, the new staff member will contribute their time and expertise to expanding FORUDEF's funding base, identifying new sources of funding, and building the long-term sustainability of the organization. A Project Development Officer will help to ensure that all staff members have the freedom to carry out their respective roles to their  full ability and improve the functioning of the organization as a whole.

We are excited to continue moving towards achieving full funding for this project and to moving forward in our work with local communities.

Thank you again. Your support is greatly appreciated.
