TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR SALT WORKERS
We started a health related programme for the salt pan workers in Thalamuthu Nagar. These were performed at two project sites. This is an apt month for the salt production. All the training programme were convered near the salt product area (salt pans) we provided them training about
¨ Health problems caused by sun burns
¨ How to recover
¨ Safe necessity of Drinking water
¨ Precaution to prevent dermal diseases
¨ Mainly to prevent the eye infection
¨ To protect their salt / usage of footwear.
¨ Information about the eye camp / eye referral and provisions.

PROGRAMME FOE EYE CAMP REFERRAL
Salt pan workers major problem is of their eyes. Because of the hot summer, Most of the salt pan workers have been affected by eye diseases. We had a plan to have free eye camp / eye surgery referral in our project. Right now we have no enough funds, we offered the training to have the referral with eye hospitals. We provided the beneficiaries to “referral chits” to contact a relevant eye hospital name “Aravind Eye Hospital” to have the free eye camp including surgery .

WORKSHOP ON BATS CONSERVATION
For this programme we selected Biology teachers and Biology students this programme was a one day programme Sonne interesting feature of the workshop are:
¨ Identification of bats
¨ Prevention of myths
¨ Roosting sites of bats in our district
¨ Migration pattern of bats
¨ Govt. of TamilNadu – Dept of Forest prevention Acts and Conservating Procedure
¨ Importance of bats houses
Promise of the participants to co – operate of the conservation technique.
EXPOSURE VISIT / ROOSTING SITES:
Lost quarter (3 Months) from the bats camps (seminar) workshops. we have selected the interested volunteers for the Exposure visit to bats roosting sites.
It would be an adventurous trip, we visited the area near “Aathoor” (migrating bats roosting sites) to view of bats. As they viewed in person they understood more than the seminars. They came to understand
¨ Migrating species / and their roosting sites of bats
¨ Knew the bats catches for Asthma
¨ They understood is purely myths / information
¨ Knew the conservation procedure
¨ Knew about “endangered” status try Dept. of Forest
Totally it was very useful programme for the trainers.



PROJECT TITLE: REHABILITATION OF THANE CYCLONE VICTIMS IN SOUTH INDIA(9753)

PRA (PARTICIPATORY RURAL APPRAISIAL)
In the previous reports we viwed the cuddalore district, parangipettai coastal block PRA, this time we have viewed a agricultural village (Annawalli). This panchayat away him the district heed Quarters cuddalore 18Kms. This is purely agricultural village. There are mostly Dhallith ( Sheduled caste) people are reside. This present target community belong mainly of Agricultural – coolies and small farmers. This is a Drought prone village. Surrounding this village, any other village is not formed / near by distance only empty space is found. As they have no enough rainfall in the village they are planting only ground nuts.
This cuddalore district block Annawalli pancahyat has been much affected during thane. By the uprooted trees more than 40% of tiled house damaged. As this area has been affected heavily by cyclone Nisha and Thane cyclone serially. Here is a cyclone relief centre but the centre is much damaged as it is 20 years old building during thane also the community did not go to relief centre, stay over there. Through out present project is going on over, there we have a given a petition to the Govt. through M/s Thilaga rani (panchayat president , Annavalli) to re establish the cyclone shelter.
Almost here all the community are BPL (below poverty line) level. Here is a Angawadi ( child Mid day meal centre) but to PHC (primary health centre). In any health emergency the community travel a distance of 10km, Already here are women self help groups and they have a building for their work. From these itself. We are convene PRA (participatory rural appraisial ). Here is a middle school (Ist to VIII std), As there is no any high school or higher secondary, the students here are unable to obtain any higher education. The important town ( caddalore and Kurinchipadi) are away from this village 15 – 20 km .Even though they have the transportation facilities the community there is economically very poor being conducted social mapping ( one among the major sociological reasearch tool of PRA ) we have collected the above said particulars from the community itself directly. The target group themselves drew pictures in front of temple using chalk piece / white colour powder. By using this tool (the titled, hut houses) existing Govt. sources (Govt. school etc) water resources safe and alternative route for the future disaster, and also they themselves evolved a evacuation plans. There were two benefits as the community itself drew the diagrams .
SEASONAL DIAGRAM :
The community itself also drew a seasonal diagram on the floor using various color powders. This clearly demonstrates, harvesting ground nuts and a few vegetables in various season. We taught them the protection methods to gave them from the forth coming disaster and drought. Our global giving staff Team guided them also a new farm pond in this village with the help of Nabard Bank. We have given a petition to the Nabard bank through panchayat president.
ANNA VALLI VILLAGE HOUSE HOLD SURVEY:
Our global giving aided staff Team visited every houses in the Annavalli Village and tool house hold / damaged survey. As we had met the community already during PRA and trainings. The reception of individual community is fruitful. We have collected the survey of the totally damaged houses and submitted the report with District collector through the panchayat leader.
