Maham [ Name changed] , a 24 month old toddler with Down Syndrome, was admitted to the pediatric ward of R.B.U.T Civil Hospital in Shikarpur in February. Her family is very poor; their daily income is only 200 rupees (about $2) and she is the youngest of 9 siblings. Maham was admitted to the hospital with a fever, cough and breathing difficulties, and her condition was steadily increasing in severity prior to her admission at the hospital. While at the hospital, she was diagnosed with malnutrition and acute bronchial pneumonia, and consequently admitted to the stabilization center for nutrition and treatment of her pneumonia . There she was given much love and care. The support SHINE gave to Maham and her family helped them gain hope where they had none. Thankfully, Maham is now recovered and is happily back home.
Thank you for helping us in the care of Maham. Please continue to support our cause so that we can keep helping the many others like Maham who are admitted to the ward everyday.

Dear Supporters of SHINE Humanity;
There has been a recent large outbreak of measles in Pakistan with a few associated deaths. [http://dawn.com/2013/01/11/nearly-2-9m-children-given-measles-vaccination-under-crash-program/.]. Measles is a common childhood illness, easily prevented by timely vaccination.
Shikarpur is one of the worst affected districts during this outbreak. SHINE Humanity is dealing with the surge in the number of children admitted with measles at the pediatric wards in the R.B.U.T Civil Hospital Shikarpur through the generous contributions of our donors. SHINE is working closely with the World Health Organization[WHO], UNICEF, and the government’s District Health services to ensure that all children admitted to the wards are getting the treatment they need. The government has stepped up the immunization program and besides providing the medical treatment , SHINE staff members are educating the community to get their children vaccinated for all preventable childhood illnesses and not to wait too long to bring their sick children to the hospital.
We ask for your support to help us deal with this present crisis, and to help increase our community based outreach for prevention.

Thank You for Helping Pakistan's Flood Victims
As we wrap up our project, Give Health Services to Pakistan Flood Victims (#6047) on Global Giving, we sincerely thank you for your dedication and generous contributions to SHINE Humanity for helping the flood victims of Pakistan.
Pakistan suffered devastating floods of historic proportions in 2010 followed by lesser degrees of flooding in 2011 and 2012. With the prompt help of our Global Giving supporters and that of other individuals and organizations, such as International Development & Relief Foundation, we were able to provide emergency medical and humanitarian relief during the acute phase of the disaster followed by provision of medical care through clinics and a hospital in the rehabilitation phase. Our Global Giving supporters donated a total of $274,056 throughout the duration of this project.
Your contributions have enabled us to help over 140,000 beneficiaries in the flood affected areas of Pakistan since 2010, with the provision of food packages, hygiene kits, livelihood support, and medicines as the needs arose. As the need declined in other areas and the victims returned to their homes, we focused our efforts at our facilities in Charsadda [KPK], Swat [KPK], and Shikarpur [Sindh] following initial services at multiple centers in all four provinces in 2010. Over 50,000 beneficiaries have received medical treatment, including outpatient and urgent care services, during 2012.
SHINE Humanity is continuing to provide support for the treatment of sick children admitted to the R.B.U.T Civil Hospital in Shikarpur, a flood affected area, where we have been helping since 2010. Around 1000-1200 sick children are admitted for treatment at the Pediatric Ward each month. Most of the children suffer from diarrhea, respiratory tract infections, anemia, and varying degrees of malnutrition. Besides the provision of free medicines, we aim to improve the health of the children through education of the mothers, ensuring all children are immunized, and providing nutritional support for the children who need additional supplements. The people of Shikarpur have suffered from flooding in their area for three years in a row, impeding their ability to move ahead from the devastation in a meaningful way. We ask you to please continue supporting our efforts for the needy people of Pakistan by contributing to our Global Giving project “Improve Health for Mothers & Children in Pakistan (#7004)”. As 2012 draws to a close, please make a tax-deductible contribution through Global Giving to help our project beneficiaries.
We thank you for all your help in the past and look forward to your continued support. SHINE Humanity wishes you and your loved ones a happy, healthy, and prosperous year ahead.
