Heal One World

Heal One World was formed to help connect people in need of preventative health care, non-traditional/complementary modalities, including non-invasive treatments and guidance learning self help techniques, that are generally not covered by insurance, and offer access to this help on a sliding scale, free or donation basis. We help to serve children, those with chronic illness, as well as the general disadvantaged population to be sure everyone has access to all options available to them.

Celebrate Our Neighborhood

A lot of exciting things are happening with Heal One World. We had an amazing Health Fair “Celebrate Our Neighborhood” that took place on November 8th, 2014. It was great to work with Midtown Shopping Center and the Olympic Park Neighborhood Council. Volunteers and community members were able to enjoy music, free yoga, tai chi and zumba demonstrations as well as receive free information from over 20 vendors. Community members left with a clear understanding of what’s happening in their community, knowledge about available resources in the area and how they can be more involved.

LAMP Diva Day and Self Care Presentation

Skye Kelly, Executive Director gave a well received presentation on Self Care and helped the  LAMP community celebrate their Diva Day. LAMP ends homelessness of Los Angeles most vulnerable individuals, primarily adults with mental illnesses, through a continuum of services and housing, enabling them to reach their highest level of self sufficiency and community integration. Heal One World has been invited back on the February 23rd, 2015 to give another talk and demonstration on Self Care. Everyone was excited to learn and participate in the yoga and tai chi demonstrations. We’re also working with LAMP on other health and wellness events.

Zen Den @ Park City

The Sundance Festival was held a few weeks ago and we organized another successful Zen Den Class where celebrities and filmmakers were treated to holistic treatments also yoga as well and tai chi classes.

Online Yoga class with Skype and Microsoft

Yulady Saluti, a yoga instructor, mother of six and cancer survivor whose mission is to share the amazing healing powers  of yoga with everyone that suffers from chronic illnesses hosted an online yoga class partnering with Skype, Microsoft and Heal One World. Heal One World shares the same vision and purpose as Yulady, so this was a great opportunity for us to work together and spread the love and knowledge about yoga.  Please visit the link to pictures and information on homepage. http://skypemoments.com/socialgood

Spreading Health Awareness in Full Force all Fall

Presentation at USC on Self Care
Presentation at USC on Self Care

Falling into Wellness at Heal One World! What a last couple of months!

We started with being a part of the Yoga festival in Joshua Tree, Bhakti Festival. There we engaged thousands and offered cranial-sacral treatments as well as spoke about the Awareness Film Festival. We are still working on opening our wellness center there with a date of February 2015.
We were present at the Los Angeles Green Festival sharing health and wellness tips.
The Awareness Film Festival was a resounding success and we showed over 100 films with attendance over two thousand attendees! It was 10 days of films, music and art.  Winners included: The Starfish Throwers, The Kingdom Within, Love Bomb and many others. We were the Los Angeles festival premiere for the documentary film Pump featuring alternative fuel options.  Our gala honored Jim Carrey and his Better U Foundation as well as David Lynch and the David Lynch Foundation.  We are excited to have had John Raatz the founder of GATE (Global Alliance of Transformational Entertainment) in attendance as he spoke to work he along with Jim Carrey and David Lynch are doing to bring conscious media to the forefront.
We also brought on board and amazing Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner Lois Leonhardi. She is giving a free talk on how to be more balanced in your diet and lifestyle from ancient wisdom and practices proven over centuries.  She will be offering sliding scale personal one on one sessions from now on at Heal One World!
We also did kids yoga at the event Something In The Canyon in Malibu!
Glady we were able to do demonstrations of Tai Chi and Yoga at the Paramount Health Fair and we offered magazines and information on wellness matters.
I was lucky to present a very well received presentation on Self-Care at the USC Caregivers 15th annual symposium.  We have had many offers to present from this and also treat more patients and give more demonstrations around the area.
We are honored to be chosen as a 2014 Top Rated Non-Profit by Great Non-Profits and looking forward to our own health fair along with the Midtown Shopping Center and Olympic Park Neighborhood Council. There will be over 33 vendors relating to health and wellness.  We are doing bilingual demo's of Yoga, Tai Chi, Tabata, Zumba and live music, chair massages and more. We are so excited to invigorate the neighborhood and spread awareness of all that is offered in our area.
Looking forward we will be at the Sundance Festival again this year and we are offering more Tai Chi and Sound Healing classes as well as a Tai Chi Leader training and expanded work with LAMP with wellness and awareness events.

Falling into Awareness: Films, Music, Art, Healing, Retreat and new classes

Yoga at Lynwood Elementary School
Yoga at Lynwood Elementary School

As summer comes to a close and fall rolls in, Heal One World is busy bringing back and introducing exciting new programs for all of you to enjoy. Latin music and aerobic exercise: Zumba is back in session with Eva, for an hour of great musical fitness- folks are loving it! Meditation is offered by Laura Sharkey, new guided classes once a week. Yummy Yin aromatherapy with De Jur is back and now available for her yoga groupies!  Our clients bring their yoga mats, water, and spirits. This Fall, we will be conducting bilingual yoga classes at First Care in Huntington Park twice a week. We are also excited to announce that The Bresee Foundation will present youth yoga again this season. HOW is proud to introduce Kundalini Yoga with instructor Francesca Aster every Wednesday. Starting this Fall, we will again offer Tai-Chi lessons at Front Porch, Vista and Pilgrim Towers.  Senior yoga at St. Barnabas center in Pico-Union. We are also adding sound and music therapy to our open community schedule.

We recently hosted Yoga, Tai Chi, Nutrition to rave success!, a workshop at the Jordan Downs Housing Project's Community Center. The Motivated mothers club loved the classes and have asked for regular classes which we also hope to begin in the Fall. In addition, we are looking forward to working with Para Los Ninos, an educational institute dedicated to closing the achievement gap among the impoverished youth of Los Angeles.  We were happy to take part in the Lynnwood Middle School Health Fair. A Health Fair at University High School and at PACE in South Central Los Angeles.  And will be presenting at the Venice Family Clinic  (our partner) Health Fair on August 25th.

Our latest project here at HOW is now in full swing. The Veterans Project will result in total renovation of a piece of property in Joshua Tree which we hope to convert into a retreat center for those who cannot normally afford a retreat healing experience. These retreats will include yoga, tai-chi, meditation, healing foods and juices, and other healing modalities. Progress is being made quickly and we hope to unveil in late Fall.

Executive Director Skye Kelly has been elected as a Community Organization representative in the Olympic Park Neighborhood Council, where she created an Ad-hoc Wellness Committee which she will chair.  She is also collaborating to create a Health Fair in the community this November. Heal One World was honored as a nominee at the Los Angeles Business Journal's Non-Profit and Corporate Citizen Awards in June.

Lastly, it’s movie watching galore here at the healthy living center as HOW happily announces the line-up for the Fifth Annual Awareness Film Festival. Since its start in 2010, the Festival’s intent has been to promote awareness of today’s issues through the art of film. In addition, it has been the largest annual funding source for Heal One World. This years films target a variety of pressing topics such as international conflicts, gay rights, corrupt governing, environmental issue, alternative treatment to chronic diseases, racial issues, animal rights, and mental illness. Some of the feature films, shorts and documentaries we are pleased to showcase include The Starfish Throwers, Love Bomb, Pumped, One Love, The Kingdom Within, Furthest from the Wild and the Red Passage.  We hope to see you all at Awareness Fest and please feel free join our upcoming programs.
