April Update

Parents in the waiting area for Vitamin A campaign
Parents in the waiting area for Vitamin A campaign

Hi!

We've been up to a lot of things in 2013. We were officially approved by the Bangladesh Civil Surgeon to administer immunizations in our ward.

In March, we gave 100 children Vitamin A supplements as part of the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign.
Vitamin A capsules will help eliminate blindness among children by improving their eyesight as well as enhance children's growth and immune system. We also held eye treatment camp in partnership with Bangladesh Jatio Andha Kalyan Somity (BJAKS) Hospital in Comilla at the MAAWS Health Complex. We had 300 villagers in attendance and 196 of them were treated for eye-related issues. 20 patients were found to be in need of surgery, 48 patients received prescriptions for glasses while the rest of the patients received general treatment.

We cannot thank you enough for your faith in us and believing in our mission. I know there are a lot of other ways you could have spent this money, but you believe in our cause, so you chose to invest it in our project. Because of this investment, I want you to feel like part of our team. We're in this together. I want our success to be your success. Together we can all work to provide people with the opportunities to uplift themselves out of poverty.

Please tell your friends and family about our project by sharing the link on your blogs or social networks.

Thank you again for all you have done to help this cause.

Best,

Juhi

End of the Year Update

Hi Everyone,

I hope all of you are slowly winding down and getting to spend some time with your loved ones this holiday season. Before we all tune out for the New Year, I wanted to provide you with some updates of the MAAWS Health Complex.
Since opening in June, we have seen over 600 patients to date. Over 83% of our patients are women and children. At present, we are providing primary care to our patients but with the latest addition of Dr. Dilruba Akther we have seen an increase in female patients requesting her specialty services. MAAWS is one the few facilities in the area to provide a gynecologist.

In October, we opened up a Pathology Department and hosted a free blood grouping session and a free workshop taught by Shomin, a lab technician supervisor from Chittagong Diabetic Hospital, about erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). Three of our students sat and passed the certification exam.

In such a short time we have been able to accomplish much and this is without a doubt because of your support. We cannot thank you enough for your faith in us and believing in our mission. I know there are a lot of other ways you could have spent this money, but you believe in our cause, so you chose to invest it in our project. End of the Year Update

"Water is the driving force in nature"
"Water is the driving force in nature"

Hi Everyone,

I hope all of you are slowly winding down and getting to spend some time with your loved ones. Before we all tune out for the holidays, I wanted to provide you with some updates.

Since December 2011, we have been able to install 24 tubewells in our project area. Approximately 2400 people now have access to safe drinking water. None of this is possible without your support. By providing clean water, villagers are now have less risk of contracting a debilitating water-borne disease and women and children do not have to travel far to get clean water. We have installed the tube wells in village market, schools and areas where villagers were primarily used contaminated pond water.

We have many other exiciting projects out in the horizon. This past June, we opened up the MAAWS Health Complex. As of early December, we have seen over 600 patients. We still need a lot of support for this project, so please in this time of giving think of the 30,000 people in the Senbagh/Begumganj area of Noakhali, Bangladesh that do not have access to basic health care. You can check out our project and donate at www.tinyurl.com/gghealthcomplex

We cannot thank you enough for your faith in us and believing in our mission. Together we can all work to provide people with the opportunities to uplift themselves out of poverty.

Best,

Juhi
